# RandomTranslator

> RandomTranslator is a reading site for Chinese web novels translated into English. Readers add a novel, it is translated with AI models, and anyone can read it. Each novel has a glossary that keeps names consistent, character wikis, and volume and arc recaps. Chapters 1 to 50 of every novel are free to read; later chapters need the paid Reader membership, and free readers can read them in Google Translate instead.

## API

Do not scrape the pages for data: there is a JSON API for it.

- Every use needs a personal API key, sent as "Authorization: Bearer <key>". A signed-in reader with the Reader membership ($5) or higher creates theirs on the account page at https://randomtranslator.com/account: one key per account, once the account is a day old, shown once. There is no anonymous access and no demo key. Other /api/v1 routes are the website's own and are not a supported API.
- Limits: 120 units a minute and 10,000 units a day per key. A record costs 1 unit, a page of a list 5. Every charged answer carries X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Cost. Over the limit: 429 with Retry-After.
- Chapter text is never available through the API. Reading counts against one daily allowance of 1,500 chapters per account, shared by reading on the site, offline downloads and RandomTranslator's own apps.
- Start with GET /api/v1/limits/me, then GET /api/v1/user-novels/bookmarks or GET /api/v1/novels/?title=.

- GET /novels/hub: every genre, fandom and tag with its number of novels.
- GET /novels/popular/{time_range}: the most read novels for daily, weekly, monthly or all_time, with each novel's movement.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}: one novel: titles, author, synopsis, genre, tags, status, chapter count, and your shelf and place.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/chapters/page: a page of a novel's chapter list: numbers and titles, never text.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/entities: a page of a novel's glossary.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/entities/search: search a novel's glossary by Chinese or English name.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/general-entities: the shared glossary terms that apply to a novel.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/recaps: a novel's volume and arc recap tree; view=structure leaves out story text.
- GET /novels/{novel_id}/recaps/arcs/{arc_index}: one arc's recap and its chapter summaries.
- GET /user-novels/bookmarks: your library, with reading status and where you are in each novel.
- GET /user-novels/{novel_id}: your library entry for one novel: status and reading position.

- GET /limits/me: your limits today.

## Connector for AI apps (MCP)

RandomTranslator is also an MCP server, for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and other clients, as a custom connector (it is not in the app directories).

## Notes

- English text is machine translation; the Chinese original is shown beside names and titles.
- The API and the connector never translate, request or scrape a novel: they read what the site holds.
- DaoSearch (https://daosearch.io) is a separate site with its own API and connector for Chinese-side rankings and reviews. RandomTranslator serves none of its data.
