Noble Phantasm
My Fates Codex in the World of Type-MoonBiodata
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Name | Noble Phantasm |
| Alias(es) | 宝具 |
| Occupation/Role | A Servant's ultimate armament: a materialized miracle and proof of the heroism recorded in their legend. 147 |
| First Appearance | Enuma Elish is ordered for use against Sakutsuki during Angelica's pursuit. 2 |
Nature
Noble Phantasms are embodiments of a Heroic Spirit's legend and mystery. They are treated as superweapons: an ordinary Servant typically possesses only a few, while their effects can range from direct destruction to conceptual interference, summoning, barriers, or battlefield creation. 18 147
A Noble Phantasm is not necessarily a conventional weapon. It may manifest as armor, a vehicle, a spellbook, a skill, a Reality Marble, or even a scripted story that seals its targets inside a staged world. 27 31 73 81 335
Legends and duplication
Two Heroic Spirits may manifest the same Noble Phantasm if both legends establish ownership of it. Hercules and Hippolyta can each possess Hippolyta's girdle despite its singular historical origin. 25
Gilgamesh is an exceptional case: his Gate of Babylon contains the original forms of humanity's treasures and technologies. Its contents continue increasing whenever humanity produces something new. 25
Properties and mechanics
| Property | Details |
|---|---|
| Rank | Noble Phantasms possess ranks that affect their comparative power and interactions. Nero's B-rank Golden Theatre of the Excelling Self overpowered Nursery Rhyme's C-rank Reality Marble. 384 |
| Type | A Noble Phantasm may be designated Anti-Personnel, Anti-Unit, Anti-Army, Anti-City, or another specialized type. Excalibur is an A++ Anti-City Noble Phantasm, while Maiden's Agony is Anti-Unit. 73 278 |
| True Name Release | Releasing a Noble Phantasm's true name activates its defining effect or raises its output, such as Sword in the Stone exceeding its normal speed threshold. 81 |
| Conceptual effects | Their effects can override ordinary physical logic. Fragarach rewinds the sequence of an enemy's ultimate attack so that its target is struck before the attack is released. 190 |
| Spiritron construction | Servant Noble Phantasms are made of Spiritrons; Sakutsuki's Third Magic can interfere with these constructs. 278 |
| Mana dependence | Sustained activation and high-output releases consume magical energy. Miyu's support Noble Phantasm can aid allies but normally reduces her own health. 78 |
| Destruction and reinforcement | A Noble Phantasm may be damaged, suppressed, copied, enhanced, or converted into a new form under exceptional circumstances. 50 180 337 |
Major forms
| Form | Example | Documented function |
|---|---|---|
| Offensive armament | Gae Dearg | Diarmuid's spear nullifies magical defenses and can pierce barriers such as Rho Aias. 28 |
| Defensive barrier | Rho Aias | A seven-petaled shield used to briefly withstand barrages of projected weapons and insect swarms. 3 11 |
| Absolute defense | Avalon | An EX-rank barrier Noble Phantasm capable of directly countering Ea. 226 |
| Reality Marble | Army of the King | Iskandar manifests an army of historical companions, whose maintenance cost is shared among its members. 73 |
| Summoning catalyst | Prelati's Spellbook | Gilles de Rais' human-skin spellbook functions as a magic core, enabling Grand and Ritual Magecraft and continuous sea-monster summoning. 128 |
| Weapon conversion | Knight of Honor | Lancelot can grant an object held in his hand Noble Phantasm attributes; even mundane objects can become D-rank armaments. 28 |
| Narrative bounded field | First Folio | Shakespeare seals Servants and Masters into a scripted story, forcing their beliefs and conflicts into a staged narrative. 335 |
| Vehicle Noble Phantasm | Sword in the Stone | Sakutsuki's Kawasaki Ninja H2R gains Spirit Form, True Name Release, and Noble Phantasm durability through the Rider Class Card. 80 81 |
Notable Noble Phantasms
| Noble Phantasm | User | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gate of Babylon | Gilgamesh | A treasury of humanity's original treasures; Gilgamesh can fire countless distinct Noble Phantasms in barrages. 25 84 |
| Enuma Elish | Gilgamesh / Angelica | Ea's release is Gilgamesh's highest combat state; Angelica's masters also order its use against Sakutsuki. 2 103 |
| Delusional Illusion (Zabaniya) | Hassan of the Hundred Personas | Splits one soul into up to eighty equal individuals for reconnaissance; every destroyed body permanently reduces Hassan's total strength. 27 37 |
| Rule Breaker | Medea | A conceptual dagger that breaks magic and can sever or replace Servant contracts. 39 40 |
| Kazikli Bey | Vlad III | Recreates Vlad's historical impalement legend, deploying roughly twenty thousand stakes across the battlefield. 222 |
| Nine Lives | Sakutsuki | A weapon-dependent martial Noble Phantasm capable of changing form with its armament; Sakutsuki uses it to destroy much of Vlad's stake formation. 37 270 |
| Maiden's Agony | Frankenstein; later Sakutsuki | Converts and stores bio-electricity and magical energy, nullifies intangible attacks through electrical conversion, and enables Electro-Kinetics. 278 |
| Evening Bell Mask | Sakutsuki | An EX-rank mask entrusted by King Hassan. It grants Presence Concealment, Abyss of Death, Valley Flame, and the instant-death Noble Phantasm Azrael. 408 |
Acquisition and modification
Projection and Class Cards
Sakutsuki's Projection Magecraft can copy a weapon's structure and read aspects of its original owner's abilities, allowing him to reproduce techniques such as Nine Lives. 37
Class Cards permit limited or Dream Summons of Heroic Spirit powers. Miyu uses Sapphire to access Medea's Rule Breaker, while Class Card users can unleash Noble Phantasms through their installed powers. 39 147
Ability Extractor
The Fates Codex's Ability Extractor can store an inherent skill or Noble Phantasm from a defeated Servant. One use becomes available after seven defeated Servants; Sakutsuki identifies it as a means to improve Sword in the Stone. 128 178
- Extracting Heracles' God Hand produced an EX skill entry that nullifies attacks of Rank B and below, restores the equipped Noble Phantasm after fatal destruction, and grants resistance to repeated attacks. 180
- Installing God Hand raised Sword in the Stone from Rank D to Rank B and allowed it to endure up to thirteen destructions before failing. 181
- Adding Crying Warmonger further raised the vehicle to Rank B+, allowing it to convert received damage into mana, evolve during breakdown, and release an Anti-Army beam upon total destruction. 337
Complete projection authority
After defeating Gilgamesh, Sakutsuki receives complete projection authority over Noble Phantasms from the Gate of Babylon and obtains Hades's Cloak. The B-rank cloak prevents magical and optical observation of anything it covers, though sound, smell, heat, and movement remain detectable. 192
