"Enjoy the pleasure!"
The Daemonette's claws slowly sliced open Ron's clothes, leaving one thin bloody mark after another.
She was toying with her prey, wanting him to die amid extreme fear and torment.
To Slaanesh's followers, sadistic killing was also a form of pleasure.
The Slaanesh Cult's followers loved holding group orgies at their gatherings, sharing ultimate sensations, but they often ended up slaughtering one another.
When Hive City Enforcers arrived, they often could not find a single intact corpse. Sometimes, the bodies had even fused together.
They tore flesh from each other in pleasure and swallowed it!
Ron knew full well that, barring any accident, the Daemonette before him would disembowel him and torture him to death!
But he still had a chance!
He had already called for help. He only needed to stall for time.
Ron forced himself onward, inching toward the bedroom door.
The Daemonette did not care in the slightest. Patiently, she left one scratch after another on his body. Blood flowed, trailing long streaks across the floor.
Warhammer 40,000 was too damn hard to survive in. Even being a planetary Governor was not safe!
Ron gritted his teeth and kept moving. His chances of survival were growing. As long as he held out until the Praetorian Guard arrived, he could live!
At last, he crawled to the door. He reached out to push it open, only to touch an icy wall.
An illusion?
Ron turned around. The Daemonette had blocked his path, a hint of mockery showing in her hollow eye sockets.
She was laughing at him!
The Daemonette's illusion had driven him into a dead end. Even if the Praetorian Guard arrived, he had little chance of surviving!
"You... can die now!"
The Daemonette had clearly had enough fun. She licked her claws and drove them down viciously!
The claws stirred up a stench of blood, moving so fast that Ron could not see them clearly with the naked eye. He did not even have a chance to raise his hand and block!
This strike was enough to cut him in half!
Suddenly, Ron felt time slow down.
The claws before him became clearer and clearer. He could even see every fine hair upon them.
He had finally escaped death once, only to face it again?
Ron refused to accept it. He twisted his body with all his strength, trying to avoid a fatal blow.
As long as he still had one breath left, there was still a chance!
With his will to survive, that familiar power deep within his soul erupted once more.
Power surged forth in an instant. It was as if something had taken control of time itself. The claws froze in midair, unable to move.
At some point, a faint layer of frost had formed across the floor as well.
Golden lightning flickered in Ron's eyes. Electric currents spilled out and curled around his body, the stray arcs occasionally striking the ground.
"Hah, it finally arrived. I knew it—without a cheat, how could anyone possibly survive in the world of Warhammer 40K!"
Ron climbed to his feet. Every cell in his body seemed to cheer with joy. His body and soul were filled with power, while his wounds gradually healed and scabbed over.
This feeling was wonderful. The only annoyance was the rustling whispers in The Void.
That was a call from the Warp!
If he had guessed correctly, he had awakened Psyker Power and become a Psyker.
Becoming a Psyker was not necessarily a good thing.
Psykers were destabilizing elements within the Imperium, extremely vulnerable to corruption by the dreadful beings within the Warp.
The Imperium searched everywhere for Psykers and captured them, sending them aboard the Adeptus Astra Telepathica's Black Ships to Holy Terra for testing.
Psykers capable of resisting corruption would be used by the Imperium. Those who failed would be sent into the Golden Throne, their souls burned away as they offered everything to the great God-Emperor.
It was said that the Black Ships sent a thousand Psykers in every day as fuel to maintain the Astronomican.
This kept the Imperium's Warp routes and information channels flowing smoothly.
Therefore, Ron's situation as a Psyker was far from optimistic.
If his identity were exposed, even as a planetary Governor, he would still be monitored by the Imperium. There was even a chance that a Black Ship would drag him away.
If he failed the test, he could only be sent into the Golden Throne to serve the God-Emperor...
The thought flashed through his mind, and Ron came back to his senses.
This was not the time to think about that. He had to deal with this Daemonette first!
"Die! Die!"
The prey's escape enraged the Slaanesh Daemonette. She shrieked and struggled, desperately craving a cruel slaughter!
The Daemonette broke free of her restraints and lunged at him, swearing to tear this hateful human into pieces and devour him bit by bit!
However, a fist crackling with golden lightning struck her in the abdomen from below, sending her flying into the air as slime splattered from her mouth.
"What are you thinking, babe?" Ron's other fist followed, smashing into the Daemonette's cheek. "Get lost!"
The Daemonette's face twisted out of shape. She was blasted backward, smashing through the stained-glass window and crashing onto the balcony without moving.
"Dead?"
Ron did not rashly step forward to inspect her. He had to prevent a desperate counterattack from a dying enemy.
After all, he was still flesh and blood. One stab from those spikes in a vital spot could very well cost him his life.
His caution was correct. An attack like that still could not kill a Daemonette.
The Daemonette suddenly sprang up. Half her skull had been shattered, and she stared over with venomous hatred. Dense malice poured from her, sending chills down the spine.
The Daemonette had become stronger!
Fine, fine. So this was how she wanted to play?
Just as Ron prepared to fight her to the death, movement sounded outside—the heavy tread of combat boots striking the ground.
He immediately stopped and dispersed his Psyker Power.
"Governor!"
Boom!
The bedroom door burst apart in the next instant.
Carter Crowley, Ron's most loyal Guard Captain, led a squad of fully armed Praetorian Guards into the room.
Each Praetorian Guard carried an Imperial-pattern Bolter and wore Plasteel armor. Their builds were far beyond those of ordinary humans.
They were well-trained. They immediately located Ron and formed a defensive formation around him, while aiming their Bolters at the Daemonette on the balcony.
Ron let out a breath and pointed at the Daemonette on the balcony. "Deal with—"
Boom!
Before he could finish speaking, the Praetorian Guards pulled their triggers. Muzzle flashes flared as bullets poured forth.
The bullets formed crisscrossing streams, blasting the Daemonette's body until it resembled a torn sack.
After one round of fire, they reloaded and unleashed another.
After two rounds of suppressive fire, Guard Captain Carter strode forward.
He drew his Chainsword and brought it down vertically through the Daemonette's head, spraying flesh and blood everywhere!
Then Carter raised his foot and kicked hard, sending the Daemonette's corpse and the marble railing tumbling from the balcony together.
After dealing with the Daemonette, Carter turned and walked before Ron, dropping to one knee. His resolute face was filled with determination.
"Governor, the heretic has been executed!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a dull thud came from below the balcony as the Daemonette landed with a heavy crash.
Ron looked toward the balcony. Wind blew in through the opening, bringing a refreshing chill.
Under the moonlight, the gore-spattered balcony and bedroom resembled the scene of a brutal murder.
These guys were pretty fierce.
Ron studied the Praetorian Guards. They seemed to have undergone a certain degree of augmentation, and their physiques far surpassed ordinary humans.
Guard Captain Carter's build was even more astonishing. He appeared to be over two meters tall, with powerful muscles.
Genetic enhancement?
They were almost as large as Adeptus Astartes. This House was not simple...
Thinking that the Governor was about to reprimand them, the Praetorian Guards exchanged glances and lowered their heads.
"Very good. You look spirited, and you did well!"
Ron nodded in satisfaction. He raised Carter to his feet and patted his shoulder, leaving Carter somewhat at a loss.
Brutality was good. Brutality was exactly what he needed!
Chaos ravaged this world. Only tough men could hold the fort!
At that moment, Ron's Fear had vanished without a trace. He understood now!
All Fear came from insufficient firepower.
He would develop his forces and mass-produce troops, sending endless legions into battle and using ferocious artillery fire to cover every enemy!
Slaanesh, huh? I'll remember this. If I ever get the chance, I'll fuck you!
Just as Ron was lost in thought, an anxious cry interrupted him.
"By the God-Emperor, are you all right, my lord?"
Bayev Cotton, the Grant House's senior steward, hurried in with an anxious expression.
As Ron's confidant, he managed all the affairs and personnel, large and small, within the Palatine District.
He even helped handle certain governmental matters. His responsibilities were immense.
Out of the corner of his eye, Bayev spotted a trace of frost remaining on the floor and could not help frowning.
