Mei is a girl from Hiyoku City in Unova who originated in the Pokémon world. Qiao Ran recognizes her from a photograph because of her distinctive hairstyle and appearance, having previously known of her as one of that world's heroines 20.

After arriving in Qiao Ran's world, Mei joined Dr. Lilia's archaeological research team. She hopes that contact with Pokémon-world artifacts may restore her missing memories; attempting to recall key events causes severe headaches, while Lilia's psychic abilities can alleviate them 45.

Mei remembers that Unova's Legendary Pokémon disappeared and that the region was invaded by an unclear “dark force.” She cannot clearly remember how or why she arrived in the new world 45.

Meeting Qiao Ran
