Moonlight that should never have existed shone down upon the dark, fallen plain. At the center of a world that had long since ended, the Upper Narrator lay silently sprawled across a spiraling hill, its divine limbs still clinging tightly to the rocks formed from fragments of history. Clear moonlight draped over the divine creature like a gauzy veil, while the bright moon hung directly above the hill.
Gawain raised his head and looked at the enormous spider.
It seemed to have died while chasing the moonlight.
Of course, what it had chased could not have been moonlight. This sandbox world, like the reality outside, had no such thing as a "moon." Yet the way it had died clinging to the slope... did indeed look as though it had been pursuing something.
Magnan looked up. The Upper Narrator's limbs blocked the moonlight, casting immense shadows around him. The hot-tempered red-haired bishop narrowed his eyes slightly. "Ahem... truly spectacular..."
"We've reached the true side of this world... but what do we do next?" Yuri could not help asking. "The Upper Narrator is already dead. Are we supposed to revive it and kill it again?"
"Its corpse is indeed here, but think of that 'veil' which deceived all of us. Think of those spiders that attacked us," Gawain said unhurriedly. "A god's life and death are concepts far more complex than those of mortals. It may be dead, but in some dimension, on some level, its influence is still alive..."
Gawain spoke vaguely because there were things even he did not dare to be certain about. Yet he did have certain theories concerning "the life and death of gods"—the gods of the real world had "died" as well. The battle records of the God-Slaying Fleet, and the corpses of gods within Defiance
