Why would anyone want to summon a devil?
It's because people have needs and desires. Whether it's for power or to preserve youth, they often turn to external help for things they can't achieve themselves. Thus, devil summoning is born.
Generally speaking, those who summon devils are not good people. Those with pure and kind hearts wouldn't think of seeking help from devils. Only those with dark minds and inherently evil natures would sell their souls to devils.
Lucius was one such person, so much so that even Roy, a devil himself, found him repulsive.
But it had to be said, devils also needed people like him. Because signing a contract with them was the guarantee that devils from other worlds could remain.
Roy wanted to stay in this world and explore, but he couldn't let Lucius have his way entirely. So, he could only resort to deception, tricking Lucius into changing the terms of their deal. Now, Roy could somewhat understand why, in many religious legends, devils were always depicted as full of deceit and lies. It wasn't that devils were inherently like that, but when faced with these insatiably greedy people, even devils couldn't help themselves!
Roy felt Lucius should thank him. If, back at the Abyss Gate, Roy hadn't killed that little devil and had instead responded to this summoning, then what Lucius and the others had summoned would likely have been that little devil. With their meager offering of blood and internal organs, unwilling to even sell their souls and only intending to offer a bit of loyalty as a sacrifice, yet daring to make such arrogant demands for Eternal Life and world domination, that little devil, who dared to bare its teeth at Roy, would have probably torn them to shreds in a fit of Rage!
Don't doubt it. Even a little devil is far more powerful than ordinary humans. Killing Lucius and the others would be effortless. This kind of backlash after summoning a devil is not uncommon. Most devils are inherently violent and chaotic. When a devil finds itself unable to fulfill the contract, even if it means being repelled and expelled by World Power, it will choose to directly kill the summoner and seize their soul. Therefore, rashly attempting a devil summoning when the summoner lacks the power to defend against the devil is inherently a very dangerous act.
Only Roy was patient enough to let Lucius amend the contract.
In the Abyss, devils and demons are essentially the same race. It's just that some devils have higher intelligence and know how to use tactics rather than relying solely on brute force to solve problems, appearing more rational. Hence, in human parlance, they are called demons. Strictly speaking, Roy could also be referred to as a demon.
When Lucius's wish was changed, the text on the Demon Contract naturally followed suit. The entire contract stipulated that Lucius would provide Roy with One Hundred Souls, of any level. In return, Roy would grant him a lifespan of One Hundred Years. Under Roy's manipulation, this contract had no time limit. This meant that as long as Lucius brought him one hundred souls as agreed, Roy could use this contract to resist the repulsion of World Power and remain here.
Moreover, Roy even played a little word game. The contract stipulated that Lucius would possess a lifespan of one hundred years, not that he would gain an additional one hundred years. Given Lucius's current age of over forty, even if he fulfilled the agreement, Roy would only need to add about sixty years to his lifespan!
Lucius could also see this Demon Contract, as it was a mutual agreement. However, because Demon Contracts are a manifestation of the Abyss Gate's power, they inherently favor the devil's side. This resulted in Lucius being unable to read the Demonic Text on the contract, leaving him bewildered.
In the end, Roy extended a gleaming fingernail, pointing to a blank space on the contract, and had him sign his name, thus completing the contract.
Roy didn't need to sign because his name was already displayed on the Demon Contract. However, it wasn't Roy's complete Demon True Name, only the last string of his true name, which was "Osiris!"
The moment Lucius signed his name, the entire Demon Contract burst into flames out of thin air and was consumed, signifying the formal activation of the contract. The feeling of repulsion Roy had been experiencing also gradually disappeared.
The events of today had made Lucius both nervous and excited, causing his plump, greasy face to be covered in sweat and oil, making him appear somewhat flushed in the firelight. He gazed at the burning Demon Contract, his eyes fervent, and muttered in a low voice, "It's real, it's really real! I've also signed a contract with a devil... Now, I finally don't have to fear that damned vampire anymore!"
Lucius's words were meant to be a private thought, but in his excitement, he spoke them aloud, and Roy naturally heard him. His heart stirred, and he lowered his head, asking him, "From what you're saying, has someone else also signed a contract with a devil? And what's this about a vampire?"
Lucius was startled by Roy's suddenly close, ferocious face and instinctively took two steps back before stammering fearfully, "Y-yes, my lord! I'm talking about Dracula, Count Vampire Dracula! The townspeople spread rumors that he was once the son of an ancestor of the Villeris Family. Four hundred years ago, he suddenly became a vampire. It's said he gained Eternal Life and power by signing a contract with a devil."
Count Vampire Dracula??
Roy was stunned. What was going on?
Despite his surprise, Roy remained outwardly calm and asked in a playful tone, "Oh? So, your initial desire for Eternal Life was actually to become a vampire?"
"No, no!" Lucius quickly shook his head. "Vampires are monsters. I don't want to become one! It's better to exchange souls for lifespan like this! I don't want to be hunted by the Church..."
Roy heard another word: Church!
He had previously suspected that after being summoned through the Abyss Gate, he had arrived in a world similar to Earth. After all, Lucius and the others looked like humans from Earth. So, he was quite puzzled. Now, hearing keywords like vampire, Dracula, and Church, Roy's doubts grew stronger.
So, Roy spoke again, trying to pry information out of him. He asked, "Seeing how scared you are, is that vampire still attacking you?"
"Yes, my lord!" Lucius, still shaken, took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat from his balding forehead. "In fact, for the past four hundred years, our town has been plagued by vampires. But back then, there was only Dracula, and even though he fed on human blood, it wasn't too much. With the town's population, it wasn't a major problem. But in recent decades, Dracula gained three Vampire Brides, and their attacks on the town have become more frequent. Every day, many people die from having their blood drained, and the town's population dwindles. If this continues, the town will truly be finished..."
"Haven't you ever thought of escaping?" Roy asked.
"Impossible. Those who tried to escape were basically killed by Dracula. He considers the people in this town as livestock he's raising. How could he let us escape?" Lucius gave a wry smile. "Besides, most people in town are poor. They don't have the money to escape elsewhere!"
"But you mentioned the church!" Roy's suspicion grew, but he continued, "Does the church just let the vampires run rampant?"
"Not exactly!" Lucius shook his head. "But after Dracula became a vampire, the ancestor of the Villeris Family felt immense guilt. Four hundred years ago, he went to the church once. He couldn't bear to kill his son, but he swore to God that his descendants would kill Dracula, or else their entire family's souls would not ascend to heaven. Because of this oath, the church tacitly allowed the Villeris Family to deal with Dracula, which is why they didn't send anyone."
"However, the situation is a bit different now!" Lucius continued. "For the past four hundred years, members of the Villeris Family have continuously tried to kill Dracula, but they've all died at his hands. The family's large population has also dwindled. Now, only the last two bloodlines of the Villeris Family remain. If this continues, the Villeris Family will vanish. So, when the church learned of this situation, they realized the seriousness of the matter and finally agreed to send someone!"
"Since the church is sending someone, you dare to summon a demon at this critical juncture?" Roy sneered. "Do you think you're not dying fast enough?"
Roy even suspected that Lucius might be trying to trick the demon!
"No, no! My lord, please don't misunderstand!" Lucius, having caught the implication in Roy's words, explained in a panic. "The church has indeed sent someone, but do you know who they sent? It's Van Helsing! That's another monster entirely! The townspeople don't want him here at all, because if he fails, Dracula will take his anger out on the entire town, and the town will be completely destroyed! We have no other choice now, which is why we're seeking your power..."
The first world, I believe you've all guessed it by now, right?
