There were more Dementors guarding outside his cell. Every day, they opened the cell door and lowered the shapeless mouths beneath their hoods through the iron bars toward Black, constantly sucking in the emotions from the air around the cell. The dreadful sound was like a death rattle.

The Dementors were quite happy to carry out Fudge's orders, though they did not believe anyone could escape from Azkaban.

Black could not either.
