"Does this... count as an engagement?"

Isabelle lay quietly on the bed, slowly raising her left hand and spreading her fingers before her eyes. Staring at the silver ring on her ring finger, she still felt as though it were unreal.

A simple engagement ceremony.

Neither of their families nor friends had been present.

"Nothing. It just feels unbelievable. If Mum finds out I secretly got engaged to you in private, she'll be furious." Isabelle lowered her arm and sighed softly, still worrying over how to deal with the matter.

"You don't need to worry. Mrs. McDougal won't be angry," Albert reassured her gently.

How could she not know what her mother was thinking?
