"Sorry, my child. It was all my fault that you got dragged into this... Live well... Don't do bad things anymore."
Peter jolted awake from his dream. He pushed aside the covers and sat up, his forehead somehow drenched in sweat, his breathing slightly ragged.
Whenever he closed his eyes, Peter returned to that day. His mother had sacrificed herself to help him escape from Azkaban.
Ever since his mother died in Azkaban, self-blame and guilt had tormented Peter's heart.
"Live well?" A helpless, bitter smile appeared on Peter's lips. Could he really give up everything, hide his identity, and live a good life?
Too difficult.
Far too difficult.
To avoid letting others discover that he was still alive, Peter had no choice but to stay away from the wizarding world and hide among Muggles.
But how could a wizard possibly live like an ordinary person?
Peter certainly could not, and he knew he could never fit into the Muggle world.
Even Arthur Weasley, who was obsessed with Muggles, could not manage that.
So most of the time, Peter could only use magic to solve the problems he encountered, allowing himself to maintain a somewhat decent life.
Using magic constantly in the Muggle world could easily bring him trouble and might attract Ministry of Magic employees, so Peter usually only stayed somewhere for a few days. Then he would have to carry his suitcase like a traveler and set out alone on another journey.
Especially after leaving England, the language barrier made communication extremely difficult and Peter's life even harder. He had no choice but to use magic frequently to deal with his problems.
And nothing Peter did had anything to do with being a good person. He knew he could never become one.
I'll probably disappoint her again.
