Not long after parting ways with Potter and the other two, Moody went to the Headmaster's office to ask about Divination.
In truth, pretending not to know and avoiding the matter entirely would have been the wisest course. That way, nothing could go wrong, and he would be less likely to expose himself.
But Moody still decided to see Dumbledore, intending to use the matter to gauge the other man's Divination ability.
Albert Anderson was simply too uncanny. He made Moody feel threatened.
As for the risk, Moody felt there was little chance of being exposed through Divination. If that Mudblood's Divination really was so accurate, how could Dumbledore possibly not have sought him out? Yet even now, the boy had failed to see through his disguise.
Besides, if there really was a way to find Peter Pettigrew, then given Moody's character, he would certainly be willing to give it a try. There was little risk, while the potential gains could be enormous.
"Alastor, is something the matter?" Dumbledore looked up at his old friend.
"I just ran into Harry Potter. He said that Anderson, that remarkable boy, is very skilled at Divination. Did you know about that?" Moody pulled over an armchair and sat across from the headmaster.
"I have heard something of it," Dumbledore said noncommittally.
"Then could we have him divine the whereabouts of Peter and Crouch?" Moody said, leaning on his cane. "I don't put much stock in Divination, but Anderson truly is an extraordinary boy. I think he might bring us an unexpected surprise. Even if he fails, it would be no great loss. At least it would be better than the Ministry of Magic blindly searching everywhere without any leads."
"You are right. Perhaps we should give it a try." Dumbledore nodded in agreement.
