Background / History
The Demon Slayer Corps is a demon-hunting organization led by the Ubuyashiki family for nearly a thousand years. In an era where demons threaten ordinary people, joining the Corps is regarded as a source of honor. Its fighters use Nichirin Blades and breathing techniques to kill demons. 21
Kagaya Ubuyashiki serves as its leader during most of the story. The Corps maintains a strict historical hostility toward demons, but its outlook begins to change after members encounter Nezuko, Tamayo, Han Zhiqi's sister Meiyin, and other demons who oppose Muzan. 90 195 226
The Corps' Final Selection on Mount Fujikasane is infiltrated by unrecorded and mutated demons, revealing that Muzan's forces may be targeting its recruitment pipeline. Kagaya identifies the selection mountain as the Corps' “fresh blood” supply and concludes that destroying it would prevent the organization from growing. 59

Rank System
Newly admitted members begin at Tei, the lowest of ten ranks. The ranks are listed as Kō, Otsu, Hei, Tei, Bō, Ki, Kō, Otsu, Hei, and Tei. 58
- Han Zhiqi advances from Mizunoto to Kō rank in just over half a year. 199 241
- Hashira stand above ordinary ranks as the Corps' strongest active swordsmen. 10 137
Demon Slayer Order
The Demon Slayer Order is a black token passed down by Corps leaders. Its front bears the words “Demon Slayer,” while its reverse depicts a Nichirin Blade-wielding warrior. 241
- It grants its bearer authority over all Corps personnel, including the Nine Hashira. 241
- It takes precedence if the leader dies without a designated successor. 241
- Kagaya entrusts it to Han Zhiqi as a safeguard against Tsugikuni Sōji taking control of the Corps. 241
Recruitment and Training
Final Selection
The Corps recruits candidates through a life-or-death assessment on Mount Fujikasane, where demons captured by the Corps are imprisoned. Candidates must enter the demon-infested forest after being briefed by Ubuyashiki children. 21
- Wisteria-covered areas around the mountain provide a safe boundary from demons. 21 25
- Participants commonly form temporary teams for survival, though group formations can attract demons and prove difficult to coordinate. 20 30
- Survivors receive uniforms, rank engraving, Nichirin Blades, and a chain crow. 58
- The assessment is dangerous enough that participants question whether the Corps deliberately subjects recruits to supernatural threats beyond normal expectations. 33
Training
Kagaya orders special training for all demon slayers as Muzan's activity escalates. The Nine Hashira guide this program, and several Hashira awaken their Marks during the period. 158
The Corps recognizes the Mark, Scarlet Blade, and Transparent World as legendary supreme abilities connected to breathing techniques. 158
Resources and Infrastructure
- Nichirin Blades — primary weapons of demon slayers; Swordsmith Village forges the Corps' weapons. 27 93
- Chain Crows — birds assigned to members for Corps communications. 58
- Butterfly Mansion — a Corps-associated medical and training location where Shinobu Kocho conducts tests and treatment. 5 238
- Swordsmith Village — independent in name but treated by Kagaya as part of the Corps because it produces all Corps weapons. 93
- Strongholds — nearby Corps facilities can be contacted through Kasugai Crows for rescue and medical aid. 154
- Headquarters — destroyed in Kagaya's planned explosion during the final campaign, then rebuilt under Uesugi Aomine. 259 289
- Cemetery — later revealed to conceal a laboratory and become central to the conspiracy surrounding Tsugikuni Sōji. 293 294
Major Operations
Mount Natagumo
The Mount Natagumo mission becomes one of the Corps' most devastating recent operations. Corps members are manipulated by spider threads into attacking each other, while survivors face multiple spider demons. 73 74
Twelve members die and sixteen are injured. The Corps attributes the losses to poor intelligence and the uneven experience of newly recruited fighters; without the early arrival of two Hashira, the force could have been annihilated. 90
Old Crow Mountain
Demon slayers confront Shokura, a powerful Twelve Kizuki demon capable of controlling bone weapons. The battle causes numerous casualties, while members including Yasutsuna, Genya, Nohime, and Han Zhiqi fight to contain the threat. 119 121 127
Swordsmith Village Defense
The Corps stations Tengen Uzui and other demon slayers in Swordsmith Village after threats against its infrastructure become apparent. 196
During the attack, the Corps faces multiple Twelve Kizuki, including Upper Rank Four Hantengu and his emotion manifestations. Han Zhiqi and Meiyin aid in defending the village, despite Meiyin being one of the Twelve Kizuki. 210 212 225
Joint Eradication Operation
Kagaya secretly organizes cooperation with Tamayo against Muzan. Tamayo provides inhibitors and intelligence, while the Corps protects her identity. 195 227
The arrangement is initially known only to Kagaya, Mitsuri, Tamayo, Yushiro, and later a limited number of trusted personnel. 195 241
Relations with Demons
For most of its history, the Corps treats demons as enemies without exception. This position is challenged by Tanjiro's protection of Nezuko and by Han Zhiqi's private cooperation with Tamayo. 72 90
Kagaya concludes that demonkind includes individuals capable of kindness and argues that humans and demons may eventually coexist. He views Han Zhiqi as a bridge between the Corps and benevolent demons, including Tamayo and Meiyin. 226 241
This policy remains controversial among demon slayers.
- Tengen Uzui's group initially considers Han Zhiqi's defense of Meiyin to be aiding evil. 201
- Kyojuro Rengoku strongly opposes Han Zhiqi after his transformation into a demon. 260
- Tamayo distrusts most of the Corps despite agreeing to cooperate with Kagaya and Mitsuri. 195
Internal Problems
The Corps suffers from internal misconduct before the final conflict. Senior demon slayer Miyamoto deliberately drives a demon toward Genya in an attempt to have him killed, prompting Yasutsuna to condemn him for harming colleagues and endangering civilians. 117
A deeper threat emerges when evidence suggests Tsugikuni Sōji has infiltrated the Corps by possessing a Hashira or a leader's family member. A discarded human skin is found buried in the Corps cemetery, supporting the theory that the infiltrator changed identities. 164 230
After Muzan's defeat, the conspiracy reaches the leadership. Kiriya Ubuyashiki is revealed to be possessed and intends to purge the Corps' higher-ups to secure his authority. 294
Aftermath
The Corps rebuilds after Muzan Kibutsuji's defeat, but its remaining members are weakened by major losses. 289
- Kyojuro Rengoku dies from severe injuries. 289
- Tengen Uzui becomes paralyzed and later dies under unexplained circumstances. 289
- Gyomei Himejima dies after Muzan's defeat due to the Mark's fatal consequence. 289
- Muichiro Tokito leaves to seek a way to break the Mark users' fate. 289
- Only five of the Nine Hashira remain. 289
Following Kiriya's exposure, the leadership issues an official notice branding former Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Shinobu Kocho, along with their associates, as traitors for colluding with Han Zhiqi and Nohime. Corps members are authorized to hunt them down. 294
