Locusts!

Chen Feng did not know what the sound was. He stared into the distance, and suddenly saw a dense mass of shadows sweeping in from afar.

At first glance, he could not make them out, but once they drew closer, Chen Feng realized they were countless locusts.

There were so many locusts that they swept endlessly across the mountains, rivers, and earth. Their terrifying numbers were impossible to calculate. To the naked eye, the sight possessed a strange kind of beauty.

Yet that beauty carried an atmosphere of despairing terror.

At first, there had only been one swarm. Then, the depths of the sky and the heavens above were all crushed beneath a black mass. Only by seeing it with one's own eyes could one understand the sheer scale of the locust swarm. In the distance, some places had already been completely devoured by locusts.

Pastoral lands had become wastelands. Many villages could no longer survive because of the locusts and had long since been abandoned.

Some villages still had clothing that had not been taken away, as though their owners had intended to return. In any case, the people who had lived here had endured much anguish, conflict, and reluctance before they could only leave their homeland behind.

What the locusts left behind was nothing but emptiness and ruin.

Facing the locusts, Chen Feng activated his protective true qi, so he was unharmed. Countless locusts slammed into him and fell with clattering impacts. An ordinary person could only crouch or lie on the ground until the locusts passed, or wear thick clothing to keep them at bay.

Chen Feng walked through the swarm and arrived at a patch of high ground.

He saw that some wheat still remained in the fields ahead.
