"..."
The atmosphere was awkward for a moment.
Maria Hill was about to stand up when the ground rolled again, lifting her like a wave and carrying her right in front of Su Quan.
She looked up, and Su Quan swung his palm at her.
"Boom—" Maria Hill felt herself floating.
No, not felt—she really was floating, and she could even see her own body lying at Su Quan's feet.
"I—I'm dead? So when people die, there really is a soul?"
In her shock, Maria Hill's first thought was: Didn't you say if I knelt, you'd spare me?
Even if it was forced, I knelt. Why did you go back on your word?
Maria Hill wasn't afraid of death, but dying so pathetically—she couldn't accept it!
"I shouldn't have done anything worth the S.H.I.E.L.D.'s investigation. Why are you looking into me?"
Su Quan raised his hand, and the ground quickly swelled into a stone chair. He sat down slowly, gazing at Maria Hill's floating soul.
"Jessica Jones."
Maria Hill had come to know Su Quan and investigate him all because of Jessica Jones.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. Danger Assessment Report?"
"You know about that too?"
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Danger Assessment Report was a list evaluating superpowered individuals and dangerous items.
Whenever superpowered individuals appeared, S.H.I.E.L.D. would send a team to investigate and submit an asset evaluation and containment report.
This was followed by a full threat assessment and psychological evaluation.
S.H.I.E.L.D. would prioritize recruiting superpowered individuals into the organization or the 'Avengers' initiative.
Those who didn't join S.H.I.E.L.D. would be placed under long-term surveillance.
And for those with high threat levels and psychological issues, S.H.I.E.L.D. would eliminate the threat.
"During our investigation of Jessica Jones, we found her emotional and psychological state to be very unstable. If she kept in touch with Trish Walker, her family ties would help stabilize her social relationships, emotions, and mental state."
"But then you showed up."
"You took her in and gave her a job, so we looked into you and found—you're very suspicious!"
"All your money comes from selling gold, silver, jewelry, and accessories without proper documentation or provenance. We recovered some of it for investigation and discovered a bizarre situation."
"There was a wedding ring. We found its owner, but the owner was wearing another identical ring on their hand."
"The owner hadn't lost the ring, nor had they ordered a duplicate!"
Maybe Maria Hill figured she was dead anyway and wouldn't rest in peace without figuring out Su Quan's identity, so the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander-in-Chief's demeanor started creeping back.
"Of course, that's not the point. The point is, we dug deeper into you and found no trace of your past life. Not a single shred of evidence linking you to anything."
"It's as if you appeared out of nowhere, as if you never lived in this world before."
"Can you tell me—who exactly are you?"
Su Quan said calmly, "I'm someone you can't afford to mess with."
Maria Hill wasn't giving up. She tried to appeal to his reason.
"S.H.I.E.L.D.'s duty is to protect people from special incidents and superpowered individuals. I don't want to provoke you. I just want to know who you are, why you took in Jessica Jones, and confirm you won't cause harm."
"You should know better than anyone how dangerous superpowered individuals like you are to ordinary people!"
"I hope you understand—this isn't personal. It's my duty."
"No. From the moment you pulled the trigger, it became personal."
"Also, don't try to reason with me when I'm angry. I'm deaf!"

Maria Hill didn't know how long a soul lasted after death. She just wanted to figure out Su Quan's identity before she faded away.
Right now, that seemed impossible.
"Not going to try harder?"
Seeing Maria Hill give up, Su Quan looked a little disappointed.
"Would you tell me?" Maria Hill asked, hopeful.
"No."
"Then what's the point of me trying?" Maria Hill said angrily.
Su Quan shook his head. "That's not how it works. Sometimes, if you don't try, you'll never know what despair really means."
"..."
"So if you can't solve something today, don't worry—because you might not be able to solve it tomorrow either!"
"..."
Are you for real?
Ruthless, vicious, and with a personality this rotten—seriously—
Wait, might not be able to solve it tomorrow?
Forget whether it can be solved or not—tomorrow... I still have a tomorrow?!
Maria Hill's IQ and experience suddenly kicked in.
She glanced at her own 'corpse.' No rise and fall, no heartbeat, but also no external injuries, no blood. So—
Since Su Quan knew she was the S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander-in-Chief, he had to know how much trouble killing her would cause.
The woman he just saved—the agency would trace her death back to him through her.
No matter who he was or what he wanted, he definitely didn't want S.H.I.E.L.D. on his tail right now. So—
Maria There's Only One Truth Hill flashed a confident smile.
"Illusion? Magic? Or some other trick? I don't know how you pulled it off, but you didn't actually kill me, did you?"
The more she thought about it, the more she believed her guess was right. Maria Hill simply floated straight back into her own 'body.'
But the result wasn't what she expected!
Once, twice, three times—
No matter how she tried, no matter how she pressed her soul against her body, it was like oil and water—they just wouldn't merge into one!
Su Quan stared at her like she was an idiot. "No way, no way. You don't actually think I didn't dare to kill you, do you?"
"If I offered you a living Captain America in exchange, do you think Nick Fury would agree?"
"A Super Soldier Serum with a one-hundred-percent success rate—would Nick Fury agree?"
"A Helicarrier identical to the one S.H.I.E.L.D. developed, but not belonging to S.H.I.E.L.D.—would Nick Fury agree?"
"One isn't enough? Two. Two isn't enough? Three. If that doesn't work, I could even throw in Ronan the Accuser's Spaceship. Nick Fury's dealt with him before—he knows exactly how valuable a Spaceship is."
"So, my dear S.H.I.E.L.D. Commander-in-Chief, yes, you're important. But not that important."
Maria Hill froze. A living Captain America, a one-hundred-percent-success-rate Super Soldier Serum, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, even an alien Spaceship—
These... you can pull all of these off?!
Impossible. Absolutely impossible!
Maria Hill didn't believe Su Quan could actually deliver on those terms, but she had to admit—any one of them was worth trading her for.
Would Nick Fury make the swap?
Maria Hill didn't want to test human nature, because human nature was the easiest thing to fail under pressure.
Faced with conditions like that, if she were alive, Nick Fury might not agree. But if she were already dead—even she would be tempted!
"You—you really have those things?" Maria Hill couldn't help but want proof.
Su Quan directly pulled out the last dose of Super Soldier Serum from his system. Originally, he'd planned to use it on Dotty Underwood, but now—
"You can try it yourself. On one condition: you'll owe me a few small favors later."
"Deal."
Maria Hill wasn't stupid.
If it failed, she'd die—no worse off than her current situation.
If it succeeded, she'd become a Super Soldier, a new Captain America.
A one-hundred-percent-success-rate Super Soldier Serum. If he could produce one dose, he could produce more. And that meant the other things might be real too!
For that alone, forget a few small favors—as long as he didn't go too far, Maria Hill would be willing to have S.H.I.E.L.D. clean up his mess—er, handle his aftermath.
