Background / History
Ying Zheng first appears in Xianyang Palace as a young prince whose intelligence and suspicion are already apparent. He tests Cheng Xi with the Nine-Linked Rings, recognizes that Cheng Xi is extraordinary, and warns him that the dangers entering the palace are not merely earthly miasma. He later monitors Cheng Xi’s investigation of ancient symbols and personally escorts him away from the palace when Cheng Xi leaves under the pretense of illness. 1 4 5
As supernatural threats emerge, Ying Zheng treats them as dangers to Qin rather than mysteries to avoid. After learning of the Yin Yang School, demonic creatures, and Yan Lingji’s Witch Clan connection, he orders an immediate return to Xianyang. He later comes to Cheng Xi’s aid in Mount Li, attacking a demonic claw with the Tai'a Sword and declaring Cheng Xi his royal brother. 16 34
Following the Ganquan Palace rebellion and Zhao Ji’s disappearance, Ying Zheng seals Mount Li’s Shady Ravine, places a bounty on Lu Buwei, and responds to the spreading demonic crisis with martial law. His conflict with the Chaos Demonic Embryo forces him to confront evidence that external forces and shackles are manipulating events around Qin. 35 48 50
The pollution of the Ancestor Dragon True Spirit becomes a defining trial. Filth Blood causes Ying Zheng to lose control in court, but he later awakens with a colder and more ancient will. During the struggle against the Abyss of Return, he claims the identity of the Human Emperor, merges with the Ancestor Dragon Origin rather than submitting to it, and breaks free of the Sage Dao Shackles. 110 113 166 170
During the battle against the Child of Origin Return, Ying Zheng’s Dao Foundation is nearly destroyed. Primal Light burns the Filth from him and rebirths him as the Primal Human Emperor. He inherits the thoughts of all beings, protects Yan Lingji, and uses the Kindling Fire Imperial Sword to sever the Fetal Devourer Giant Claw. 189 190 191
Ying Zheng’s True Spirit later survives in the Abyss of Return, clinging to a fragmented dark-gold Dragon Scale. Even in this weakened state, his will assists Yan Lingji with calculations, spatial navigation, and danger warnings until he escapes a deeper Abyss threat. 197 201 204 217
As Qin’s ruler, he repeatedly suppresses Lu Buwei’s factions, investigates the Yin Yang School, and refuses to yield when the Heavenly Court demands Cheng Xi’s surrender, the dissolution of the Black Ice Platform, and Qin’s submission. He develops a pragmatic alliance with Cheng Xi, relying on his analyses while maintaining vigilance toward Chaos power. 271 277 278 280
In later crises, Ying Zheng uses National Fortune, Dragon Qi, and the Human Dao to defend Yongcheng, stabilize Qin, resist Star Remnants, and rescue Yan Lingji’s group from the Void at the cost of national destiny. He eventually fully integrates the Dragon Vein and accepts the need for cooperation among factions against external threats. 298 465 475 581
Appearance
Ying Zheng is most often depicted in black imperial attire, carrying himself with a controlled and severe authority. His Dragon Eyes and Dragon Qi become increasingly pronounced as his connection to the Ancestor Dragon and Human Emperor authority deepens.
- Wears black or profound-black robes, often decorated with dragon patterns. 34 50
- Commonly wears a jade belt; at court, he uses a Black Bird Crown. 93 110
- Possesses dark-gold Dragon Eyes, which may become golden vertical pupils when his true spirit or Dragon Qi awakens. 35 113
- Develops purple-gold Dragon Scales during the Ancestor Dragon’s corruption. 110
- As the Primal Human Emperor, bears a Primal Flame mark on his brow and wears Primal Emperor Armor. 190 192
Personality
Ying Zheng is exceptionally perceptive, calculating, and difficult to deceive. Even as a prince, he evaluates Cheng Xi as a potential threat rather than accepting his outward appearance at face value. His responses to danger are usually immediate and decisive: he mobilizes troops, seals hostile areas, purges conspirators, and treats threats to Qin as personal challenges to his authority. 2 48 247 278
His protectiveness is genuine but rarely sentimental. He repeatedly intervenes to save Cheng Xi, supports Yan Lingji and Cheng Xi with troops, intelligence, medicine, and political cover, yet openly frames some of this support as an investment in Qin’s survival. 34 330 347 348 522
Ying Zheng is deeply resistant to being controlled—whether by the Ancestor Dragon, the Heavenly Dao, or the Abyss of Return. This refusal to submit defines his awakening as the Human Emperor and his rejection of the Heavenly Decree. 166 170 280
