Nature and Function

Dou Qi is the cultivatable power that circulates through a practitioner's body, supports Dou Skills, and determines much of their combat capability. Advancing its cultivation also strengthens the soul and physical body; conversely, a sufficiently strong soul can help create an opportunity for a Dou Qi breakthrough. 88 105

At higher levels, Dou Qi, soul, and flesh must develop in balance. The body serves as the vessel for the other two, while the soul leaves an imprint upon both the body and its Dou Qi. 88 346

The first nine stages of Dou Qi cultivation are slow and dangerous because a novice's internal channels are fragile. Even mild medicinal pills can rupture their meridians, while a failed attempt to condense a Dou Qi Vortex may inflict backlash and reduce their level. 581

Cultivation Methods and Control

A cultivation method determines the route through which Dou Qi circulates and the efficiency with which world energy can be absorbed. Higher-tier methods draw in more world energy, but may damage cultivators whose meridians and physiques cannot withstand it. 105 231

Dou Qi can be strengthened not only by increasing its quantity, but by improving its quality, purity, and density.

When all three aspects reach their current limit, advancing one can trigger a chain reaction that breaks the bottleneck of the others. Lin Yuan identifies Queen Medusa's evolution as an example: soul evolution, body reconstruction, and a subsequent leap in Dou Qi cultivation. 88

Extraction and Transfer

Demonic Poison Spot

The Demonic Poison Spot is a poison-Dou-Qi technique that expels a user's cultivated energy into a target, where it spreads poison threads through the victim's acupoints and destroys their meridians. Its original form leaves the user crippled after exhausting their lifetime of Dou Qi. 188

An improved Triple Demonic Poison Spot reduces this cost:

• First stage — Consumes 20% of origin Dou Qi.
• Second stage — Consumes 50% of origin Dou Qi.
• Third stage — Consumes 80% of origin Dou Qi.
• Even the first stage poses a serious threat to opponents of the same realm. 201

Inheritance Limitations

Dou Qi ordinarily cannot be passed directly between people because it contains its owner's soul will. Before foreign Dou Qi can be absorbed, that imprint must be refined away. 346
