Background

In the first year of the New Era, a strange cosmic tide transformed Blue Star: the planet expanded, flora and fauna mutated, and spatial rifts to other worlds began appearing worldwide. Scientists discovered Spiritual Power amid these changes and named the newly observed energy. Its emergence enabled ancient martial artists to display superhuman strength, but it coincided with the arrival of catastrophic mythical creatures through the rifts. 1

Over more than 180 years of the New Calendar, martial arts developed around increasingly refined methods for strengthening the body. The seven Martial Saints' foundational methods became the most widespread and thoroughly studied systems on Blue Star. 2

Role in Martial Cultivation

Absorption and Circulation

Before a martial artist begins absorbing Spiritual Power, their acupoints and meridians exist in an unmanifested state between existence and nonexistence. Mortal Shedding cultivation makes these structures apparent, allowing Spiritual Power to circulate internally. 102 128

Advanced cultivation methods are built around this internal network. A cultivator may use the 365 major acupoints, twelve main meridians, and any manifested minor acupoints or collateral meridians to create a circulation route suited to their own body. 128

Martial Arts

Martial Skills rely primarily on physical strength and cannot be amplified by Spiritual Power. Martial Arts, by contrast, require Spiritual Power to circulate through acupoints and meridians, greatly increasing their power. 136

• Even advanced martial artists treat high-consumption Outer Scenery Moves as decisive techniques, since Spiritual Power can be depleted during prolonged combat. 165

External Manipulation

Outer Scenery Experts can draw upon external Spiritual Power directly, enabling feats such as commanding wind and rain, flight, earth traversal, and attacks capable of devastating major urban areas. 9

The quality and activity of available Spiritual Power vary by world. Li Xijun finds the martial arts world's available energy far weaker and less active than that of the Main World, comparing its circulation to a trickle against the Main World's “whale swallowing the ocean.” 189
