Ms. Heifen was not in a very good mood. Even taking a stroll with Noah through Griffith Park in Los Angeles that afternoon did nothing to improve it.
Griffith Park was the largest urban park in the United States. Located north of Hollywood, it covered sixteen million square meters.
It had golf courses, tennis courts, horse trails, an observatory, a zoo, and more. Noah was quite familiar with this place as well.
Because when he had played games before, he had controlled a Black kid and a middle-aged white man as they wandered around this place. Unfortunately, everything here was nowhere near as thriving as it was in Noah's future memories.
Maybe it was only in its early stages now, and the complete version would come later?
Ms. Heifen was in a bad mood, and all Noah could do was keep her company. She had been like this ever since returning that afternoon.
Noah had no way of figuring out exactly how her mood had turned out this way. It seemed that her conversation with the woman named Anna had not gone well? Of course, there was nothing he could do about it either.
After all, this was the United States. Who knew how the Ministry of Magic here would treat an illegal immigrant like him?
After wandering the streets for half the day, Ms. Heifen said somewhat listlessly, "I'm sorry, Noah. Because of my mood, this walk hasn't been very pleasant."
"It's all right, ma'am." Noah shrugged. Everything here was decent enough, but having seen the future, he did not think it was all that impressive.
He casually added, "In that case, why don't we head back first?"
"Mm, let's go back and get some proper rest. We can come out for another walk tomorrow."
"I thought you would choose to go back."
"Of course not. I'll give you the reward I promised. You have two months of vacation, so enjoy this trip properly."
"Yes, yes, ma'am."
They were going to stay in Los Angeles for two months?
That was hardly good news, though Noah figured Ms. Heifen would not stay here for that long.
The cost of living in the United States was not low at all. The hotel they were staying in alone cost more than a hundred dollars a day.
He flagged down a taxi at random. The driver was a young man who looked only seventeen or eighteen, wearing a cap.
Noah and Ms. Heifen sat silently in the car, but as soon as he got in, Noah noticed something was off.
Near the driver's seat were all kinds of books on theology. Noah even spotted something particularly interesting—a book on the Exorcism Spell!
That was right, a book on the Exorcism Spell. Setting aside whether it was real or fake, the fact that such a book existed suggested that someone had seen this sort of thing!
Noah became curious. Had he run into someone doing side jobs in the Muggle world? That should not be possible, right?
He examined the man carefully. There was not the slightest trace of magical power on him, which made Noah think he might have guessed something.
"Hey, buddy, is this book yours?" After thinking it over, Noah straightforwardly asked the somewhat absentminded driver.
"Huh?" The driver froze for a moment, then came to his senses. "Yeah, it's mine. Why?"
"Nothing. I was just wondering how this book ended up here. You know, I've seen this thing in the Library." Noah shrugged and spoke vaguely.
"What book is it? You've seen it in the Library?" Ms. Heifen raised her head and looked at the book, but because of where she was sitting, she could not make out its contents.
"Y-you've seen it? In the Library? Wait, your accent. You're from Britain." The driver was visibly stunned before saying in disbelief.
"Yes, that's right. Is that strange? Hey, buddy, are you doing side jobs? Or is this your line of work to begin with?"
"No, no. I... I haven't been recognized yet, so..."
"A squib? A Muggle?"
"No, neither. It's even worse."
An embarrassed look appeared on the young driver's face, and Noah and Ms. Heifen saw it in the rearview mirror.
Although Ms. Heifen was curious, she had no interest in asking about such things. She had plenty more troubles on her mind.
As for Noah, he was even less worried.
He had noticed Ms. Heifen's absentmindedness. Even if she asked later, Noah could simply say that it was an exam question from their private school, so there was no need to worry about revealing too much.
And if it really came down to it, Noah did not mind letting Ms. Heifen know his true identity.
Honestly, the British Ministry of Magic was relatively tolerant when it came to the families of wizards. They did not want Muggles to know their identities, but it was not a big deal for family members to know a little. Everyone had family, after all.
The young driver had been drawn into conversation by Noah, but Noah seemed to lose interest after chatting for a while, leaving the driver rather helpless.
Anyone who could recognize that book was generally from the world of exorcists, perhaps even the higher world of magic.
The young driver had always wanted to become an exorcist, but unfortunately, he never seemed to meet the requirements. That was why he could only ever be a driver instead of an exorcist.
Just as his thoughts began to wander, someone suddenly flagged down his car.
Only then did he notice that he had driven onto Arawala Street, and the person who had stopped him was an acquaintance!
The man was very handsome, dressed in a black trench coat and a white shirt. His face was slightly pale, and he had a cigarette hanging from his lips.
The man glanced at the situation inside the car, but he still frowned, pulled open the front passenger door, and got in.
His actions seemed rather rude, but it was obvious that he was in a hurry.
"Hey! John, what are you doing?" The driver's expression turned somewhat unnatural. He had not expected to run into something like this.
"Chas, 69 Westlake District. Hurry."
"Damn it, can't you see I have passengers here?"
"Then make them get out."
"You must be crazy!"
The young driver—Chas—looked rather upset. He had never expected something like this to happen!
If they had merely been ordinary passengers, asking them to get out would have been one thing. But that young man had recognized the book he was reading at a glance, and his earlier questions clearly told Chas that he was no ordinary person!
Chas had always wanted to enter the exorcist circle. Now that he had encountered a wizard who might be even more terrifying than an exorcist, he truly did not want to offend him.
He knew the term "squib." It described someone unable to cast magic, and he had practically decided that this young man was a young wizard!
Ms. Heifen's expression was not very pleasant either. She had not expected her first day in the United States to go so poorly, nor that she would encounter someone so rude!
But her upbringing kept her from saying a single unnecessary word. She simply sat there, completely unwilling to pay any attention to the man who had gotten into the car.
Noah, on the other hand, wore an exceedingly strange expression. His first thought upon seeing the man get in was: Isn't this Keanu Reeves? But he quickly realized who these two men were!
What the hell is going on? Why the fuck has Constantine shown up too?
