Watching Immortals Fight from the Mountain

The Endless Abyss lay at the easternmost edge of Da Xuan Country, bottomless and shrouded in thick mist all year round. Should anyone accidentally lose their footing and fall, they would surely perish without even bones remaining.

No one knew what lay beneath the Void Abyss. A place where even birds had vanished had remained a forbidden zone for humankind for many years.

Yet through the experiences of his previous simulation, Li Fan knew that the dense mist above the Void Abyss dispersed once every fifteen years. Today, he had come to see it with his own eyes.

After all, if his guess was correct, the two cultivators, Dao Xuanzi and Kou Hong, had most likely arrived in this Immortal Forsaken Land through the Void Abyss.

Li Fan stood silently, gazing at the terrifying endless chasm not far away as he waited patiently.

No one knew how much time passed before the dense white mist, exuding an ancient and primordial aura, finally began to change.

"Woooo..."

It was as though the low growl of an ancient beast drifted faintly up from below. As the sound gradually grew louder, everyone finally realized that it was the wind!

The thick white mist was stirred, rippling in wave after wave.

Then the wind grew stronger and stronger. Great quantities of white mist were forced to erupt from the Void Abyss, surging into the sky like a waterfall flowing in reverse.

The gale lasted for nearly half an hour before the heavy mist finally dispersed.

Li Fan's expression turned grave as he took out his Telescope and peered toward the bottom of the Void Abyss.

At first, the bottom of the Void Abyss was pitch-black, and nothing could be seen.

Gradually, specks of light began to appear.

After a long while, brilliant light burst forth from the bottom of the Void Abyss, and an inverted scene like a mirage entered Li Fan's sight.

According to the intelligence, each person saw something different in the scene appearing at the bottom of the Void Abyss.

What Li Fan saw before him, however, shook him to his core.

It was a ruined Mountain Gate, with collapsed buildings everywhere. The ground and walls were riddled with cracks, covered in the traces of sword strikes and impacts from spells.

Several areas seemed to have been soaked in blood, taking on an eerie dark-red color.

Corpses lay scattered everywhere, alongside weapons strewn across the ground, as though silently recounting a calamity that had occurred many years ago.

Filled with shock, Li Fan shifted his view and spotted four enormous characters carved into the smooth sheer face of a cliff.

"Immortality is Dead"! The four characters were blackish red, as though written in blood.

Though he had no idea how far away it was, the moment Li Fan saw those four words, he could feel the indescribable terror and despair contained within them.

"Immortality is Dead... What upheaval happened in this place? And what exactly happened to the entire Cultivation World?" Li Fan was lost in thought and remained silent for a long time.

The mist dispersed for only half a day before it began to gather again, and Li Fan returned to Profound Capital City.

After that, time flowed on, and before long, it was the fiftieth year of Anchoring.

That day was Li Fan's seventieth birthday. Several thousand soldiers in Profound Capital City stood in strict battle formation.

"Dao Xuanzi! Don't push people too far!"

Kou Hong spun around with an angry roar, hovering in the air above Profound Capital City.

Yet before Dao Xuanzi could respond, voices rang out from below first, echoing throughout Profound Capital City.

"Kou Hong, you brat! By order of Immortal Master Dao Xuanzi, we have been waiting here for you for a long time!"

Along with the voices came bullets that blotted out the sky.

Caught off guard, Kou Hong was struck head-on.

"How is this possible? Dao Xuanzi knew all along that I would flee here? Since when did he become so scheming?!" Kou Hong was both shocked and furious.

Then Kou Hong discovered in horror that while resisting these Magical Artifacts, his Spiritual Power was being rapidly depleted. Sweeping the area with his Divine Sense, Kou Hong immediately understood.

"Immortal-Mortal Miasma?! Dao Xuanzi, how despicable of you!" Kou Hong stared at the arriving Dao Xuanzi in utter disbelief, as though he were meeting for the first time the close friend he had known for a hundred years.

At that moment, Dao Xuanzi was rather dumbfounded.

"What is going on with these mortals? Why are they attacking Kou Hong under my banner? And they can even use Immortal-Mortal Miasma?" The sudden turn of events left Dao Xuanzi's mind temporarily blank.

But when he saw Kou Hong, who had already fallen into a towering rage not far away, Dao Xuanzi shuddered.

"There is something strange about this place! Kou Hong, I did not order these mortals to do this!" Dao Xuanzi hurriedly explained.

"What? You dare do it but not admit it?" Kou Hong laughed in extreme fury. "Or are you afraid that once word gets out that you used Immortal-Mortal Miasma, all cultivators will join forces to hunt you down? Or are you more worried that your good name, built over a hundred years, will be ruined in a single day?"

Dao Xuanzi knew his brother's temperament well. He knew that Kou Hong had already lost his reason, and no matter what he said, Kou Hong would not listen.

Dao Xuanzi vaguely felt that he had fallen into some sort of trap.

The strange aura in this place also gave him a strong sense of danger.

Fighting Kou Hong at this moment was not a wise choice.

So he patiently explained to Kou Hong, "We have known each other for a hundred years. When have you ever seen me lie? This place truly is not..."

Before he could finish, however, an aged voice suddenly came from all directions, forcibly cutting him off.

"Immortal Master Dao Xuanzi, how could you turn your back on your word? Didn't you say that as long as we helped you kill Kou Hong here and seize his Core Formation Skill, you would lead my people out of this Immortal Forsaken Land?" The voice sounded somewhat aggrieved, with a trace of resentment.

"Core Formation Skill?!" Kou Hong and Dao Xuanzi's expressions changed at the same time.

"And you still say it wasn't you! Other than you and me, who else in this world could know of this matter?!" Kou Hong's beard and hair flared out as he reached the very peak of his fury.

"This person actually knows about the Core Formation Skill..." Dao Xuanzi's heart sank completely.

Meanwhile, the voice below continued speaking on its own. "You should know that because of the Immortal-Mortal Miasma you mentioned, we have incurred public outrage. Now resentment boils across the land. If you cannot keep your promise and take us out, then before long, my clan may die without even a place to bury our bones!"

Falsely accused, Dao Xuanzi was driven into utter turmoil and shouted, "Shameless scoundrel, shut your mouth!"

He leaped toward the source of the voice, intending to uncover the mastermind behind it, but all he saw was a strange rectangular object. The voice came from within it. Similar objects were spread throughout all of Profound Capital City, and there was no telling how many more there were! "So cautious..." Dao Xuanzi was utterly helpless.

"Does Immortal Master intend to silence people now?" The somewhat mocking words continued to emerge from within.

Dao Xuanzi ground his teeth until they creaked and crushed it to pieces in one grip.

But in Kou Hong's eyes, it looked as though Dao Xuanzi had flown into a rage from humiliation after being exposed and was trying to silence the witness.

Kou Hong threw back his head and howled, "Dao Xuanzi! You and I have known each other for a hundred years, yet I never imagined I had misjudged you! If you wanted the Core Formation Skill, why resort to so many vile tricks? I won't run anymore. If you have the ability, come and take it!"

"Dao Art: Flame Dragon's Wrath!"

A furious fire dragon coiled around Kou Hong, letting out an earth-shaking roar.

The fire dragon glared ahead and spewed a crimson torrent of flame from its mouth, shooting straight toward Dao Xuanzi.

Dao Xuanzi sighed helplessly. With a soft hum, a flying sword appeared out of thin air behind him, transforming into a streak of white light as it flew to meet the crimson flames.
