Chapter 2: Performance

Ernst was a janitor at Brattos Special Education School. He rented a place nearby and was usually the first to arrive each day. Today was no exception.

But the school seemed especially deserted today, as if there was no one there at all.

When he tried to push open the first classroom door and begin cleaning, the tools in his hands fell to the floor.

The sight before him terrified him into freezing on the spot, liquid seeping from his trousers.

Headless students sat neatly in their respective seats.

When he finally came to his senses and backed away while trying to call the Investigation Bureau, he suddenly felt himself bump into something behind him, something like someone's belly.

Using the full-length mirror in the corridor, he saw a fat child standing behind him, his entire body painted white and a smiling face drawn on with lipstick.

He had seen this child before. He was the child who was often beaten up in the restroom, apparently named Jock.

But he was only a janitor, not a teacher. He had merely watched every time and never stopped it. After all, it was none of his business.

An icy blade sliced across his neck. His vision dropped, and he landed right inside an iron bucket. The pain left quickly.

Jock was not finished yet. He remained in the school, waiting for the teachers to arrive one by one for class, making sure none of them escaped.

When the investigators arrived and pushed open the school gates, they immediately triggered the mechanism.

A large bucket placed in the stairwell overturned, and hundreds of heads rolled down like balls. Each had a smiling face painted on it, as though everyone was happy.

The severity of this incident was entirely a failure
