"Who are you? How come I've never seen you before?" Matou Sakura asked, tilting her little head, her tone utterly flat.

After a full year of inhuman torment, she had become like a doll, radiating an air of emptiness, hollowness, and indifference. It was as though she cared about nothing and held no expectations for the future.

All her emotions—including fear, anger, sorrow, pain, and joy—had been completely cut off.

"What a pitiful little thing..."

Allen stepped closer and gently stroked the girl's pale purple hair.

Sakura did not shy away. Instead, she lifted her head and looked at this older boy, who did not seem much older than her but whose eyes were filled with pity.

A full minute passed before she continued in an uncertain tone, "Where are Uncle Kariya and Grandfather? I think I heard their voices just now."

"They're dead. I killed them." Allen had no intention of deceiving the girl and told her the truth bluntly.

"Why? Why did you kill them?" A slight tremor finally appeared in Sakura's voice.

But it was not fear or terror toward the killer. It was closer to relief.

To her, if Matou Zouken was dead, then she would no longer have to endure the agony in that worm pit, agony worse than death.

As for Kariya...

Perhaps a year ago, Sakura would still have regarded him as a kind and gentle uncle.
