Background / History

Diana is an Amazon princess and the daughter of Zeus. She left Themyscira during World War I and remained in the human world for nearly a century, initially fascinated by humanity before becoming deeply disillusioned with it. 16

She raised Xi Nian as family, though he calls her “Aunt.” Her decision to adopt a human child changed her outlook on humanity and became a point of resentment for Barbara Minerva. 4 16

Diana eventually returned to Themyscira with Xi Nian. Despite Amazon hostility toward a human male outsider, she placed her royal coronet on him, granting him her honor, possessions, and the status of her sovereign. 39 40 She later confessed her love for Xi Nian to Queen Hippolyta and stood by her decision despite Antiope’s objections. 42
