Background
Kiritsugu’s father, Norikatsu Emiya, was subjected to a Sealing Designation; Cornelius Alba led the execution team involved. Touko Aozaki later framed Kiritsugu for Alba’s murder, considering it revenge on his behalf. 11
He became known as the Magus Killer through assassinations of magi in the Middle East, employing modern technology alongside traditional magecraft. This reputation made him the obvious suspect in Alba’s death. 11
Kiritsugu’s lifelong pursuit of humanity’s salvation arose from witnessing suffering and human depravity. When unable to protect Irisviel and Illya from Einzbern control, he concluded that the Holy Grail was his only possible means to save the world—and himself from his despair. 72
Appearance
Kiritsugu is described upon arriving in Fuyuki as a refined, white-haired young man with his hair braided, dressed in unusual clothing and carrying a Chaldea-marked briefcase. 94
- White hair, styled in braids. 94
- Carries a briefcase marked with an abstract “c” encircled by a laurel wreath. 94
- Was also seen at Winter Castle in a black trench coat with a scruffy beard. 69
Personality
Kiritsugu is calculating, secretive, and relentlessly committed once he chooses a course of action. Aoko characterizes him as someone who will carry an ambush through to the end regardless of what is said to him. 151
His composure masks severe insecurity about his ability to protect those closest to him. He worries for Irisviel and Illya, yet feels powerless against Einzbern authority and the Aozaki sisters’ superior magecraft. 70 72
Although he is willing to sacrifice and deceive in pursuit of salvation, he remains attentive to Irisviel’s well-being and maintains a gentle mentor-student bond with Shirou. 94 100

Einzbern Negotiations and Irisviel’s Double

Conflict with Aoko

- Aoko considers Kiritsugu dangerous enough to prioritize anti-ambush awareness when selecting the Alertness feat. 5
- Aoko and Touko later condemn Kiritsugu’s actions in Fuyuki City. 129
