Background / History

Yu Xiaogang built his reputation as the “Grandmaster” through martial soul theory. Luo Ling later alleged that his celebrated research had been compiled from Martial Soul Hall materials and presented as his own work. Yu Xiaogang had also used the Hall’s resources without contributing to it. 18 81 82

While at Notting Academy, Yu Xiaogang arranged for assistant teacher Zhang Lang to bring Luo Ling away under the pretense that Yu Xiaogang would accept him as a disciple. Zhang Lang instead attempted to murder Luo Ling on Yu Xiaogang’s orders. 1 273

Luo Ling survived through a second martial soul awakening and retaliated by crippling Yu Xiaogang, arranging a compromising scene involving Zhang Lang’s corpse, and spreading accusations that Yu Xiaogang practiced evil skills. Yu Xiaogang woke with no memory of the incident and became the subject of public suspicion. 3 16

Yu Xiaogang took Tang San as his disciple, viewing the boy’s Twin Martial Souls and Clear Sky Hammer as an opportunity to restore his damaged standing. 16 He later joined Shrek Academy as a teacher, where he unsuccessfully tried to recruit Luo Ling and attempted to persuade his nephew Yu Tianheng to transfer to Shrek. 81 102

After Luo Ling manipulated and terrified him, Yu Xiaogang accepted the Blood Devil Ritual. The ritual broke his long-standing level 29 bottleneck, but it also drew him into corpse sacrifice and the worship of the Primordial God. 78 He ultimately planned to establish the Primal God Sect, with himself as Pope and Tang San as High Priest. 132

The Blood Devil Ritual was publicly exposed during the Soul Master Competition, leading Martial Soul Hall to label Yu Xiaogang, Tang Hao, Tang San, and the Shrek students as evil cult members. 200 202 Yu Xiaogang later returned to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, spread the ritual through the clan, and cooperated with Emperor Xue Ye in activities connected to disappearances in Heaven Dou City. 220

During the final conflict, Luo Ling forced Yu Xiaogang and Tang San into an Illusion Realm and revealed Yu Xiaogang’s role in Luo Ling’s attempted childhood murder.
