Brunzino, a soldier in the Angola colonial army's border patrol, had been transferred from the homeland to Angola three months ago.

Brunzino was a hot-blooded young man who had joined the ranks of those "defending home and country" without hesitation, especially now that Angola and Mozambique colony, the Kingdom's only two remaining large colonies, faced the threat of the rapidly rising barbaric nation—East Africa.

Along with his unit, Brunzino had been assigned to the border region between Angola Colony and East Africa's Letania Province.

The Portuguese knew East Africa fairly well, and Brunzino was no exception. Over the past few years, Portuguese newspapers had written more about East Africa than any other country. It was Portugal's greatest threat at present.

In Portuguese newspaper propaganda, East Africa was naturally a barbaric nation, an evil power ruled by the "tyrant" Constantin, possessed of boundless greed.

As East Africa's monarch, Constantin took stray fire on a daily basis. Yet East Africa's achievements in construction were also credited to Constantin, the country's nominal ruler—especially the descriptions merchants from various countries gave of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam city.

As windows onto East Africa's economic development, those cities were East Africa's most dazzling "pearls." They were hailed as the twin stars of the Indian Ocean, ranked alongside Mumbai, India's great metropolis.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, the only city fit to be compared with East African cities was Cape Town. Other places with small white populations did not count.

Thus, every morning when Portuguese people stepped outside, they had to "send regards" to the families of East Africans, expressing their "gratitude."

In the Portuguese view, East Africa's heaven-sent wealth had been achieved entirely through plundering Portugal's Mozambique colony and Angola Colony.
