Winburg.

The most important military fortress in southern East Africa, and East Africa's foremost front against the Transvaal people. The Boers had not been sitting idle these past years either. Even before the civil war, they had begun constructing defensive works along the southern bank of the Fett River.

Thus, opposite Winburg now stood a large military fortress built by the Boers. With British technical support, it had been constructed to an exceptionally professional standard. Even East Africa's currently domestically produced heavy artillery would likely struggle to take it, unless imported super-heavy coastal defense guns were transferred from the coast to the front.

Only after the civil war ended were the Transvaal people able to continue building the southern Fett River defense line, which faced East Africa's northern Fett River defense line from afar.

Therefore, it would not be easy for the Transvaal people to attack East Africa. Conversely, East Africa also had to contend with the fortress complexes built by the Boers. From the very beginning, it had been destined that any great war in the south would be no easy fight.

In its previous wars, the only enemies East Africa had encountered who built fortifications were the Sultanate of Zanzibar and several indigenous states around the Great Lakes.

As for Portugal's two colonies, their territory was simply too vast for them to build systematic defensive fortifications. Once war broke out with East Africa, they could only maneuver against it through isolated strongpoints.

But East Africa's strength lay in its numbers. If one position proved difficult to capture, it could simply leave part of its forces to surround it without attacking, while the main force continued thrusting into the rear. The overstretched Portuguese could only watch helplessly as East Africa ran rampant across their land.
