A Brief Reunion

After chatting idly with the old man, Will learned that he was a veteran retired from the army. This was quite common in East Africa, especially since the resettlement of military personnel could be considered a distinctive feature of East Africa.

Just as the two were about to continue their conversation, a rather familiar yet unfamiliar voice came from behind Will.

"Big Brother!"

Will turned around and saw a young man just over five feet seven standing behind him.

"Mel?" Having been away from home for so long, Will found his family's changes somewhat unreal.

"Big Brother, it's me. After all these years, you haven't changed much, but if one looks closely, your bearing is clearly different. Have you been doing well in Germany?"

The one who had come to meet Will was his second younger brother, Mel.

"Your voice is a little different from before. I didn't dare think it was you. If there hadn't been no one else around, I definitely wouldn't have thought you were calling me," Will said.

After so many years apart, both Mel's appearance and voice had changed to some extent.

Mel grinned foolishly. "I grew up, didn't I? When you left home, Big Brother, I had only just started primary school. Now I'm nearly done with middle school."

"Really? Then how are your grades?" Will opened with a killing blow.

Mel's smile froze for a moment. "They definitely can't compare to yours, Big Brother. You're the only university student in our village."

"Precisely because of that, I hope you can make progress in your studies too. Back then, I gave you quite a lot of tutoring."

"Oh, I know that, of course. But studying abroad like you probably isn't in the cards for me. Most likely, I'll attend a vocational school or university
