Background / History

New Krypton originated from He-El's effort to preserve Krypton's survivors after the destruction of Old Krypton. He-El recovered seven million Kryptonians, rejected the restrictions of the former Kryptonian order, and declared that a new civilization would be built around Ability users and expansion into the stars. The survivors initially lived aboard Zero Star, a transforming cosmic mothership converted from a planetary base. 120 124 180

Following the war against the Green Lantern Corps and the Divine Legion, He-El secured legal recognition from the Guardians of the Universe and the Olympian gods for a territory on Earth. New Krypton landed in Australia, offered residents either citizenship or financial support to leave, and renamed the continent after itself. On September 6, He-El formally declared New Krypton's founding by raising its flag on Mount Kosciuszko. The ceremony introduced its planned academic institutions, magical system, mechanical development, and policy of accepting peoples from Earth and the wider universe. 211
