Background / History
Helian Xiongying is the aged leader of the Helian Tribe and the strongest figure in the northern grasslands. His authority is substantial enough that rival tribes fear a wider tribal war should he be harmed, while his granddaughter Helian Ziyi is regarded as his eventual successor. 155 221 259
He became Mighty Lord with support from the Great Ding Dynasty, a position that also made the Helian Tribe dependent on the dynasty and left him effectively serving as one of its pieces in the grasslands. He later recognizes that this arrangement has left the tribe vulnerable to internal and external manipulation. 265 268
By the time Ziyi travels outside the grasslands, Xiongying is already suffering from declining Blood Essence and worsening health. He sent her away partly as a contingency for the Helian Clan's unstable position, while she sought support capable of preserving the tribe. 201 212
Personality
Helian Xiongying is pragmatic, cautious, and politically perceptive. He considers the wider consequences of his decisions, including refusing to immediately kill Huyan Kang because doing so could trigger a destructive tribal war amid the grasslands' instability. 259
Despite his calculating nature, he is protective of both his family and the grasslands as a whole. His greatest concern is whether Helian Ziyi will be able to suppress the ambitious tribal leaders after his death, and he repeatedly acts to preserve the future of weaker tribes as well. 268
He respects strength and capability. After meeting Lu Zhaojin, he treats him as an honored guest, recognizes his extraordinary talent, and considers relying on him to give the Helian Clan a path beyond dependence on the Great Ding Dynasty. 221 268 292
