"The Cleaner"

Through the Mother's perspective, Meng Chao saw countless creatures resembling algae and mollusks slowly writhing and struggling desperately amid folds that rose and fell like raging waves.

They were like marine creatures that had only just crawled onto land when all life on Earth was beginning to sprout, their forms exceedingly primitive and archaic.

Yet amid their many primitive, crude, inefficient organs, there would abruptly emerge certain... exceedingly intricate, complex, and ferocious organs.

For instance, rows upon rows of densely packed fangs grew from boneless, limp bodies.

Others resembled nautiluses that had grown powerful tentacles and crawled across the earth like hermit crabs.

Still others looked like patches of writhing fungal mats, their surfaces covered in scarlet eyes that radiated intense light.

These creatures were malformed offspring that nature could never have evolved.

Meng Chao guessed that they were descendants of monsters that had luckily survived the Primordial War.

Though spared the death penalty, they could not escape living punishment. The Primordial Ferocious Beasts had not been completely wiped out, but they had suffered intense radiation and severe contamination. Their "evolutionary roadmaps" had been utterly thrown into chaos. After millions upon millions of years of stumbling through evolution anew, the fact that they had grown into their present forms was already a Miracle of Life.

Meng Chao sensed the Mother's joy.

A joy incomparably pure, born from this Miracle of Life.

For these clumsy, ugly, yet incomparably precious little lives, the Mother did not hesitate to expend the Spiritual Energy it had painstakingly accumulated over centuries. It stimulated its tentacles to grow faster, spreading them toward the places where the malformed creatures gathered.
