Attack (Monthly Vote Request)

The German Navy's Carrier-based aircraft did not target the warships on the sea first, but the British seaplanes. Upon discovering the incoming German naval aircraft, the seaplanes, originally assigned to reconnaissance, were the first to bravely charge into the German formation.

Although there were not many of these seaplanes, fewer than twenty in all, their performance in every respect was worlds apart from that of the German aircraft. Yet their courage was still worthy of admiration.

Whoosh! A yellow signal flare rose into the sky. It meant that the fighters were to drive off the enemy aircraft and create the conditions for the bombers and torpedo bombers to attack.

The twenty-four escort fighters immediately swooped down from high altitude toward the British seaplanes.

Rat-a-tat-tat!

The aircraft machine guns began strafing, bullets hammering into the bodies of the British seaplanes. Their skins were pierced through, and their wooden airframes were ripped apart outright. One British seaplane after another was shot down. Before the German fighters, the British seaplanes appeared so clumsy and fragile.

This aerial battle was completely one-sided. Just as the fighting began, the British seaplanes had already paid a grievous price, with half of them shot down. In the ensuing dogfight, the British seaplanes were even less of a match.

Admiral John Jellicoe and Vice Admiral David Beatty watched the scene with faces ashen.

"They are all brave lads! What a pity we do not have aircraft capable of matching German fighters. Otherwise, they would not have been defeated so miserably!" Admiral John Jellicoe said.

"Yes, Commander. The Germans are far, far ahead of us in the aviation industry." Vice Admiral David Beatty sighed.

Without question, they mourned the deaths of those valiant pilots. These pilots had been brave men, charging forward to fight the German military to the
