"Protest the military's slaughter of innocents! Recall the Expeditionary Fleet at once!"
Outside the palace, several dozen protesters held up placards, voicing their demands.
Standing in his office, Oscar could see them clearly. He could even hear their voices distinctly. To keep them from disrupting his work, he had no choice but to close the windows.
Still, Oscar had never expected that, as Emperor of the Empire, he would one day be protested against. From a Huaxia way of thinking, this was simply unimaginable. After all, in the East, an emperor's word carried the weight of nine tripods. Whoever dared defy the emperor could only wait to lose his head! But the West was different. Since the people had the right to protest, they would not care whether the target of their protest was an emperor or not.
Naturally, being protested against for the first time left Oscar in a foul mood. He summoned the Empire's ministers to discuss a response.
"Your Majesty, nearly every voice in the international community is condemning us now. However, only the United States and Britain have made official statements. Most of the rest are private citizens," Foreign Minister Wachth said.
Oscar nodded. "The German Empire is about to defeat Britain and become the world's hegemon. Naturally, those countries do not have the nerve to protest against the Empire. But are those private citizens so idle that their balls ache? What does the war between the Empire and the Island Nation have to do with them?"
"Your Majesty, there will always be many self-righteous people in this world! They believe that only they are just, only they are noble. We need not pay them too much attention. But if we allow them to keep smearing us, the Empire's international image will certainly suffer," Prime Minister
