On the airport runway, one Royal Air Force plane after another was making preparations for takeoff. The pilots were already seated in their cockpits, waiting only for the ground crews to finish their final preparations before taking off immediately.
"Quick! Hurry up! Jack, there are too many German aircraft—we're about to be unable to hold on!" a pilot roared at the ground crew below.
"I'm refueling as fast as I can! But this damned fuel truck can only go this fast. What do you expect me to do?" Jack, the ground crewman, replied impatiently.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
Suddenly, a German Mark II fighter plane swept over the gun tower, and a stream of aerial machine-gun bullets raked the ground. Jack was hit in the chest and sent flying backward.
"God!" the pilot shouted.
He hurriedly jumped out of the plane and prepared to run. But a bomb had already fallen, striking his aircraft with unerring accuracy.
Boom!
The bomb exploded, detonating the fuel truck as well. Flames completely swallowed the pilot and his aircraft.
Several H1 bombers flew overhead. Bombs dropped from their bellies like dumplings plunging into a pot, followed by a dense series of explosions. The entire runway was shrouded in flames, and all the British military aircraft parked there were devoured by the inferno.
The huge hangars beside it were likewise key targets for destruction by the German aircraft. With the airport's anti-aircraft fire already suppressed, several H1 bombers dropped as much as three tons of Aerial Bombs onto the hangars. Although few aircraft remained inside the hangars, they were all destroyed nonetheless.
Next, the airport's ammunition depots, fuel depots, pilots' barracks, dining halls, watchtowers, and other facilities all became targets of German aircraft. Under the bombing of the German bombers, every one of those targets was destroyed.
The
