The Konoha Defense Force's... unit commander?

Chiba's eyes slowly widened as he looked at the utterly serious Third Hokage before him, who clearly was not joking.

It was not just the Third Hokage. Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura also wore grave expressions, clearly having agreed to this appointment with great deliberation. Danzo, meanwhile, sat with lowered brows and a docile expression, his eyes nearly shut. He slightly opened them to glance at Chiba before closing them again, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking or how he felt about it.

Impossible! I'm only ten in this life. A ten-year-old becoming a unit commander? That's completely beyond the very concept of a Hokage! There has probably never been anyone like this before, and there never will be again! Besides, this doesn't fit the selection rules for a unit commander, does it? A normal unit commander might not need some especially rare Kekkei Genkai or unique ninjutsu, but their combat strength at the very least has to stand out among Jonin. The commanders of some special units even need combat strength at the Elite Jonin level. Yet more important than combat strength is command ability, and that doesn't mean the ability to command squads of four, eight, or ten people. It means the ability to command a hundred-man unit!

Commanding a hundred-man unit is not as simple as an increase in numbers. It involves logistics, morale, grasping countless subtle details, the ability to adapt to every situation, long-term strategic vision on the battlefield... and so on. Commanding a hundred-man unit is not something an ordinary captain or team leader can handle. Even among intelligence-focused ninja, the vast majority are incapable of it.

There are simply too many things to consider, too many tests a person must pass.
