Background

Nine Nether was a prodigy of the Nine Netherbird Clan and its Young Clan Leader. While training away from her clan, an unsuccessful breakthrough left her recuperating in the Northern Spiritual Realm, sealed in a black egg within the Black Underworld Abyss. Lu Chen found her there and offered the Myriad Beast Spirit Flame and the Heavenly Flame Celestial Body cultivation method in exchange for a chance to see the broader world. Moved by his request and conduct, she agreed to protect him and travel with him. 3 4

The Myriad Beast Spirit Flame enabled her to cross her tribulation, evolve into a Nine Netherworld Sparrow, and regain human form. She then brought Lu Chen to the Tianluo Continent and Da Luo Territory, where she was recognized as the returned Nine Nether King. 4 8

During Lu Chen's crisis while cultivating, Nine Nether used her race's Bloodline Link technique to save him. The link bound their lives together: either one's death would also kill the other, while Lu Chen gained access to her abilities and the Undying Fire. 5 7
