Peter and Gwen stayed on Earth-1616 for a few more days, mainly because there were still matters that needed handling—especially Wolverine's secret base. It was best to blow it up. Though it was a shame, no Peter Parker from any universe was likely to hand that thing over to the United States government.
But how to destroy it without affecting all of New York City was another craft requiring careful planning. Peter spent two days helping before they finally solved the problem. And once it was resolved, it was naturally about time to leave.
"So, he really isn't going to be Spider-Man anymore?"
Before leaving, Gwen curiously asked about Ben Reilly. He had dyed his hair blond, gotten a hairstyle completely unlike chubby Peter's, and was even planning to grow a bit of a beard.
He had also put on an entirely different Spider-Man suit. The spider emblem on its chest was enormous, its legs covering nearly half his body. This was Ben Reilly's Spider-Man suit. Before destroying Wolverine's base, he had used the equipment inside to completely perfect his genetic sequence. He could now live like a normal person without worrying about his lifespan.
"Not exactly. He's planning to find a job, lose weight, train again, and go back to MJ—learn how to be a father."
Ben Reilly scratched his chin as he talked about it. Even now, he felt strange saying such things as a clone. "Spider-Man will return one day. But before that, this city still needs him."
"Maybe by then, this city will still have room for two Spider-Men."
Peter handed a hard drive to Ben Reilly. "A few little gifts. You might find them useful. It's a shame we have to leave, but some of Wolverine's troubles still haven't been dealt with."
