A new doctor was walking among New York's poor, providing them with free medical care. He charged no money, did not look for people to test drugs on, and even provided free prosthetic limbs to the disabled.
It sounded like idealism, even magical realism. Peter chatted with them a little longer and discovered that it was merely an urban legend. Although one homeless man insisted it was true, he could not produce any evidence, and even his companions were laughing at him.
Peter quietly made a note of it and decided to investigate when he had time. Turning around, he saw Gwen asking several homeless people whether they needed any help. When she spotted Peter, she walked over and beckoned him to come lend a hand, asking, "Where did you run off to slack off?"
"I wasn't slacking off. I was at the front desk recording what people needed, helping coordinate housing and jobs and things like that. I just went to the bathroom." Peter looked at Gwen. "Do you need any help over here?"
"No, not really. Felicia and Cindy are inside making cookies and bread... Honestly, I was planning to join them, but Aunt May said more people were needed outside, especially since a lot of elderly people need help."
Gwen scratched her head and looked behind her. She had guessed that The Charity Ball would be busier than usual today, but she had not expected it to be this busy. The community doctors hired by The Charity Ball alone had come by four or five times, and quite a bit of the stored medicine had been used up.
