In the end, Gwen did go home in Aunt May's car. Ever since George Stacy became a precinct captain, he seemed to have become even busier, to the point that even Peter rarely saw him.
Who knew how he managed to be so busy during a time when even supervillains had become scarce?
But after returning to the neighborhood, Gwen apparently could not find any reason to stay at the Parker family home, so she left. Peter and Aunt May went back inside. Once they got home, they found Uncle Ben in the garage, fixing his old Japanese car.
"I guess this thing broke down again?"
"This car has been with our family for almost fifteen years, Peter. It's only a little younger than you." Seeing free labor walk over, Uncle Ben called Peter over to help. "Lift the car for me, kid. I need to take a look underneath the chassis."
Peter got out first and lifted the old Toyota. Uncle Ben sighed, shoved a jack beneath it, then had Peter lower the car. He lay down on a creeper, rolled under the vehicle, and began repairing it.
"Isn't this car a little too old, Uncle Ben? Do we need to replace it with—"
"No, no, no. No need. This old car can still run. Besides, we'll be buying a new car soon enough, so there's no need to spend money replacing mine right now."
For a moment, Peter did not understand what Uncle Ben meant, but Uncle Ben quickly explained. "You're already sixteen, Peter. You should get your driver's license. In a few years, when you go to college, you ought to have a car of your own. As for mine, I don't need a replacement."
"I won't need a car even if I go to college..."
