Background / History
Dumbledore visited Wool's Orphanage to deliver Hogwarts acceptance letters to Tom Riddle and Li Weide. He patiently established that they were wizards, demonstrated magic when Tom demanded proof, and brought both boys into Hogwarts' orbit. 7 9
During Grindelwald's activities in Britain, Dumbledore became a central defender against him. He repeatedly led Aurors against Grindelwald's followers, and his presence was considered decisive enough that the Ministry relied heavily on him. 30 36
He initially treated Tom with caution, but quickly placed extraordinary trust in Li Weide, particularly after Li openly voiced concern that Ancient Magic might make him a slave to power. Dumbledore reassured him that the desire to improve was not inherently wrong, provided he held to his principles. 10 53 54
Dumbledore's fear of political power stems from his earlier support for the phrase “For the Greater Good” and from Ariana's death, which stopped him from fully following that path. This guilt makes him reluctant to become Minister for Magic even as Grindelwald infiltrates the Ministry and Hogwarts. 129 194 289
After using the Resurrection Stone and speaking with Li Weide, Dumbledore begins to forgive himself and gains greater magical strength. 129 146
Appearance
Dumbledore is a tall, thin wizard with auburn hair and beard. At Wool's Orphanage, he wore ornate dark-purple velvet robes; despite the unusual clothing, he carried himself with notable elegance. 7

Personality
Dumbledore is patient, courteous, and deeply protective of students. He handles Tom's hostility without escalating it, concerns himself with Li Weide's safety, and repeatedly prioritizes the boys' protection over public recognition. 9 10 146
He believes power is neither inherently good nor evil; character and principles determine how it is used. This view shapes his acceptance of Li Weide's Ancient Magic and his resistance to Grindelwald's ideology. 54 160
Despite his immense ability, he fears becoming intoxicated by authority. His past failures make him self-critical and reluctant to seek political office, even when doing so could counter Grindelwald's influence. 183 194 289
