Shadow Space was an immensely vast place. Though it could not match the exaggerated scale of the Vengeance Legion Nest, which dominated an entire universe, after a long period of construction and expansion, it now had the volume of a small galaxy. We could therefore store many things requiring proper protection here. For instance, far from Shadow City, there was a special base.
Calling it a base, though, I sometimes jokingly referred to it as a morgue.
It was an extremely vast expanse, enough to contain several Earth-Moon Systems. Its boundaries were marked by a series of restriction buoys located along the perimeter. Each buoy, spaced hundreds of kilometers from the others, was only about the size of a private car, yet it was an exceptionally powerful super Gravity Trap. This defensive network, uncommon in ordinary Empire bases, normally served two purposes. First, it prevented external forces from jumping into the base under extreme circumstances. Second, it prevented the things inside the base from rushing out without permission. These faintly glowing buoys formed a sealed spherical grid, and within that grid lay an enormous number of colossal starships.
The surfaces of those imposing war machines gleamed with cold silver-gray metallic light. Their silent, majestic bodies were arranged in oppressive three-dimensional formations through space. Apart from limited basic lighting, no other glow could be seen on their hulls. Even the psionic grids that never went out on normal Empire warships were dark, giving one the impression that this fleet had never been activated. These starships varied in size and model, ranging from the smallest Assault Ships to the largest Eternal-class Motherships. It could practically be called an exhibition hall for the Empire Fleet. In the empty spaces between the warships stood many illuminated space factories and integrated fortresses. Their task was
