Background / History

Yangmei was a Chaos Demon God who pursued the Great Dao rather than the incomplete Heavenly Dao. In the Chaos Era, he traveled with Shichen and other Demon Gods, encountered Outer Realm “Weird Demon Gods,” drove them from their Chaos, and helped seal the passage through which they entered. 25 174

During Luohou’s Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation, Yangmei located and removed the Immortal-Killing Sword, weakening the array. The effort left him heavily injured; after Daoist Five Elements, Daoist Qiankun, and Daoist Yin Yang were slain, he fled into the Void. 17

He later reunited with Taichu in the East Sea. Their Dao discussions improved the cultivation of the lifeforms on Yangmei’s island, while Taichu’s strength and resources stirred Yangmei’s envy and strengthened his resolve to pursue the Great Dao. 24 25

Taichu supplied Yangmei with a daughter plant of the Chaos Space-Time Grass. Yangmei used it, along with Chaos Spirit Liquid drawn from Taichu’s Chaos Spirit Pond, to cultivate Space and Time together and enter the Hunyuan Realm. His opportunistic absorption of the pond’s resources led Taichu to keep him in the Primordial Wilderness rather than let him leave freely. 27 28 31

Appearance

Yangmei commonly appears as a silver-haired elderly Daoist in robes, but his true body is a colossal Void Willow rooted upon a Chaos island or manifested through the Space-Time Realm. 28 456

Personality

Yangmei is intensely ambitious about the Great Dao. He refused to settle for the Heavenly Dao path, sought Pangu’s Dao Fruit in his earlier ambitions, and repeatedly pursued rare resources or teachings that could strengthen his Space-Time cultivation. 25 27 183

He is opportunistic and shameless when dealing with friends, particularly Taichu. He eagerly accepted the Chaos Space-Time Grass, drew on the Chaos Spirit Pond during his breakthrough, and attempted to obtain expensive apprenticeship gifts for Zhen Yuanzi from Taichu. 27 28 70

Despite this self-interest, Yangmei is perceptive, calculating, and protective of those he considers his own. He recognized Zhen Yuanzi’s potential, watched over Minghe’s opportunity in the Blood Sea, and deceived Shichen into revealing information before trapping him with the Three Pure Ones. 69 93 271

His relationship with Hongjun is openly hostile. Yangmei believes Hongjun’s actions during the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation exhausted their bond and refuses to be manipulated into serving as Hongjun’s weapon again. 93 456 457
