A van approached from the distance, rounded the corner, and soon entered Su Heng's field of vision.
At first, he had thought the van was merely passing down this road, but that was not the case.
Screech!
Accompanied by a piercing shriek of brakes.
The white van drifted to a stop, its tires carving two black streaks across the concrete as it halted before Su Heng. Its bright headlights enveloped him completely.
After the van stopped, two street thugs—one fat, one thin—opened the doors, got out, and walked over to Su Heng.
"You work out here often?"
The man who spoke was tall and fat, with two fierce black dragons tattooed on his arms and a face full of flesh.
"Yeah."
Su Heng grunted and nodded. He took a small step back, putting on the look of someone who had never seen much of the world and had been frightened by their intimidation.
"You've got some nerve, then." The other thug had a pockmarked face and sneered arrogantly. "Coming to a place like this alone in the middle of the night."
"Have you seen these two?"
They had no intention of listening to Su Heng explain. Instead, they pulled out two photographs.
The people in the photographs were none other than the two unlucky bastards who had died at Su Heng's hands more than ten days ago.
Seeing those two faces, which still lingered vividly in his memory, Su Heng's heart stirred.
They'd finally come looking. At least all that time I spent waiting here wasn't wasted.
"I've seen them."
A trace of nervousness appeared on Su Heng's face as he replied timidly. Yet inwardly, he was calculating whether he could use these two to find this group's hideout.
If his previous judgment had been correct.
This group should be an organization specializing in collecting True Relics. If he could find their base, he might be able to follow the trail and obtain a large number of True Relics.
He was still one hundred and fifty True Points short of unlocking the next template.
If he got lucky this time, perhaps...
At that thought, even the way Su Heng looked at the two men carried a faint trace of greed.
Fortunately, Su Heng had kept his head lowered and said nothing. The two young thugs looked like the sort who were used to acting without restraint, and neither noticed what Su Heng was plotting.
"Good. As long as you've seen them."
The man with the black dragon tattoos casually stuffed the photos into his pocket. "Come with us. Our boss wants to see you."
"W-Where...?"
Su Heng looked at them in "fear" and could not help taking another step back.
"Quit yapping. You'll go when we tell you to go. You want a beating?" the more muscular man cursed bluntly, his thick black nose hairs twitching as he spoke.
He stepped forward and raised a hand, about to swing at Su Heng's face.
Frightened, Su Heng shouted, "I'll go! I'll go, okay? Don't hit me!"
"Forget it. No need to waste time here." The tall, fat tattooed man reached out and pressed his companion down.
The two flanked Su Heng and brought him to the van's back seat, neatly keeping him confined between them.
The driver stepped on the gas. With a roar of the engine, the van started up and soon left the decrepit industrial district.
"Looks like these two aren't actually sure I was the one who killed them."
Sitting in the van, Su Heng closed his eyes as if resting, though he continued thinking to himself. "There's a good chance a conflict will break out later. I still need to find a way to hide my identity."
About twenty minutes later.
The white van stopped on a secluded street.
Led by the man with the black dragon tattoos, Su Heng got out. Raising his head, he saw the words "Qingcheng KTV" flashing in multicolored red lights amid the deathly silent street.
"What the fuck are you looking at? Keep staring and I'll gouge your eyes out!"
The thinner pockmarked thug cursed loudly and even shoved him.
Yet Su Heng's body did not move at all. Instead, the pockmarked man nearly stumbled and fell to the ground. He raised his head in shock and anger, only to meet those calm, black eyes.
The little thug shuddered. A suffocating terror spread from the depths of his heart, and cold sweat instantly poured down his face.
Su Heng turned around and calmly followed the tattooed man into the KTV.
Neon lights flashed, and music thundered.
The scene inside the KTV was utterly different from outside. In the main hall, countless men and women pressed tightly together as they danced wildly, while drunks too out of it to know where they were lay sprawled in the corners.
The air reeked of alcohol, cigarettes, and the rotten stench of bodily fluids.
"The closer they are to destruction, the more frenzied they become."
Having been in this world for over half a year, this was the first time he had seen such a lively scene. Still, all he felt was that it was noisy.
He went up the stairs and arrived at a private room along the inner corridor of the second floor.
The man with the black dragon tattoo knocked on the door.
"Boss, it's A-Chen. I've brought the man over."
Clang.
The private room door was opened by two lackeys stationed there.
Inside, a short, fat middle-aged man with a gold chain around his neck had two scantily clad, voluptuous young women in his arms. His thick, stubby fingers roamed up and down their bodies.
Whenever he touched a sensitive spot, the girls let out waves of sweet, alluring laughter.
In the corner of the spacious private room stood another seven or eight young men who looked like thugs.
Su Heng's gaze lingered briefly on the man with the gold chain before shifting to the tall, powerfully built middle-aged man in a black suit standing behind him.
The man had a broad chest and clearly defined muscles. One look was enough to tell that he was a trained fighter.
"Bring him in."
The short, fat man who appeared to be the boss patted one of his companions on the ass. The two girls gave coquettish hums and obediently got up to leave.
After entering the private room, the fat man pointed at the sofa opposite him. "Sit."
As he raised his hand, his shirt shifted, revealing a dark-red, centipede-like knife scar.
Su Heng looked around, then sat down somewhat stiffly across from the fat man.
A lackey beside him lit his cigarette. The fat man took a drag, then looked at Su Heng through the haze of smoke. "My name is Qing Long. People on the streets call me Brother Long. You know why I called you here this time, don't you?"
It was obvious that Qing Long was trying to project the image of a gang boss in order to put psychological pressure on Su Heng.
But to Su Heng, his awkward imitation looked rather ridiculous.
"I know. Those two brothers already told me on the way here."
Su Heng nodded cooperatively, while the corner of his eye caught sight of a safe in the corner.
His thoughts turned, and he guessed that the safe most likely contained the True Relic he had been searching for.
