Su Bai had been woken by the biting cold outside the tent.
More precisely, someone else had been woken by the cold.
When he opened his eyes, Chen Yusheng in his arms was curling herself closer against him. Her icy little feet rubbed against his calves through the sleeping bag as she muttered groggily.
"Cold..."
Su Bai looked down and couldn't help laughing. The girl slept quietly, but the temperature had plummeted in the middle of the night. Even the down sleeping bag couldn't hold back the chill. Her usually aloof, pretty face was scrunched up, the tip of her nose red from the cold, like a wronged little animal.
"Stop curling up. Come here." Su Bai simply pulled her fully into his arms, using his body with its 170 physique points as a heater. "My body temperature works better than a stove."
Chen Yusheng didn't stand on ceremony. She immediately pressed herself against him, buried her head in his chest, and let out a long breath. Only after quite a while did her eyes slowly crack open.
"How much snow... fell outside?" Her voice was still thick with sleep, impossibly soft.
Su Bai reached out and pulled open a corner of the tent.
Blinding white light instantly flooded in.
Overnight, the entire valley had become a world wrapped in silver.
The pine branches sagged under thick snow, the distant mountains were a vast unbroken expanse of white, and the grass that had been lush and green yesterday was now covered in snow past their ankles.
The sky had cleared, though. Sunlight spilled across the snow, so bright it was hard to keep one's eyes open.
"Damn." Su Bai whistled. "This snow came down even harder than the forecast said."
