The facts proved that the secretive visitor truly had some skill. Several nearby demon planets quickly answered the call, and as promised, the Nathrezim brought her a Fel fleet of considerable strength.
Under the threat of the Swarm, the demons of this sector temporarily united. They fought several battles against the Toranar Swarm and barely managed to halt its advance.
But honestly, that victory served little purpose beyond preserving those few demon planets.
Like the material galaxy, the Twisting Nether possessed a three-dimensional, eight-quadrant spatial structure. And that did not even account for the swarm casters' phase shifts and other supernatural abilities. Stopping the Swarm in one direction could not prevent it from spreading outward elsewhere.
During the previous Blood War, The Conqueror Kil'jaeden had mobilized countless resources and personnel to trap the Shadow Chasing Swarm from every direction in three-dimensional space. Only then had the conflict been prevented from expanding further and disrupting the Burning Legion's plans.
Those conditions no longer existed.
Once the Swarm realized that the demons had united, the Toranar Swarm's Overmind did not even waste time continuing its confrontation with them. It ordered the Swarm to keep expanding in every direction until it encountered obstacles it could not temporarily overcome.
Thus, before Matron Shal'Ras and her demon allies could even celebrate their victory for a week, they discovered in horror that a swarm calamity had erupted once more in the sectors behind them.
That meant the demons had fallen into the most desperate situation possible.
