After a delay, the area within a five-kilometer radius would become a magicless environment for twelve hours.

(Note 1: After use, Merlin's Ashes would slowly gather inside a container. The speed of gathering depended on the number of wizards within the affected range at the time of ignition. The more people there were, the slower it gathered.)
