Chapter 23: God
Looking at the mountain and the tree, the ten people were deeply moved.
Could the environment here nurture such tall trees?
"Is this the Sacred Mountain, the Divine Tree?"
As she watched, Natalie became stunned.
Finally, she said in disbelief, "Are the divine trees and sacred mountain that the natives made up real?"
They weren't fake?
"Let's go closer!" Jonas said in shock.
As they flew closer, the kilometer-high giant tree appeared increasingly tall. Its thick trunk and canopy pierced the clouds, as if connecting to the heavens.
The more they looked, the more moved they became.
Also, on the mountaintop, besides those two large trees, the summit was covered with other tall trees. Although they weren't as extraordinary as the other two, they were still magnificent.
They felt a mysterious aura washing over them.
At this moment, looking at the unnaturally tall tree, Natalie's heart trembled. She thought of something and murmured, "That God..."
As she spoke the word "God," the others immediately snapped back to reality, their hearts striking a chord.
"The legend of that God..." Natalie continued to murmur.
Following her words, everyone instantly recalled what the native named Meng had said earlier.
"In the ancient traditions of our tribe, the very beginning of the world was emptiness. Within that emptiness, only the one God existed."
"After an unknown amount of time, the Almighty, all-knowing God was not satisfied with the status quo, so he created all things."
"After creating all things, God felt the world was a bit too quiet, so he created the ancestors of us humans, Adan and Hawa!"
Almighty, all-knowing, creator of all things?
A chill ran down their spines.
However, despite their hearts wavering slightly, their years of scientific thinking ultimately stabilized their minds.
Natalie said reassuringly, "It's just one or two special trees; this doesn't prove anything!"
The others relaxed a little upon hearing this, thinking she had a point.
Looking at the kilometer-high giant tree, Natalie analyzed with a smile, "This tree must be a miracle born from some coincidence. Those natives lacked insight and mistook it for a divine tree, so it's normal for them to imagine a God."
Following her calm analysis, Jonas and the others pondered, finding it quite reasonable.
Miracles were not uncommon in the world; it was possible for extraordinary things to appear, just like this tree.
Thinking this way, they relaxed even more.
After finally reaching the mountaintop, they discovered something unusual.
Almost no animals approached the summit, as if the area had some anomaly.
"Perhaps it's because the mountaintop has issues that it could nurture these two giant trees," Tim guessed.
"It couldn't possibly be because of God, right?" Natalie said with a casual mockery.
But after she spoke, she noticed a subtle change in the expressions of the others.
They had all subconsciously overlooked this issue, and now, with Natalie's words, they were immediately reminded of God.
"Impossible, don't overthink it. How could such an existence be real!" Natalie asserted. "This is just the foolishness and ignorance of those natives!"
Although a sliver of hesitation remained in their hearts, the others eventually dismissed the thought.
"You're right, Natalie," Farouk agreed.
Finally, they observed the summit for a while longer but found no other anomalies.
"Let's take some samples back."
Looking at the two trees, which were lush but bore no fruit, Jonas gave an instruction.
The group began collecting soil and tree samples, preparing to take them back for research, hoping to discover something.
Before long, they withdrew from the area.
Perhaps they didn't realize that a subtle sense of repulsion towards this place lingered in their hearts, making them unwilling to stay any longer.
Unbeknownst to the ten people descending the mountain, at the summit they thought was empty, an existence was silently watching them leave.
Su Qi, who was practicing his Mental Power and observing them, gradually frowned.
"Fortunately, I had already picked all the divine fruits by the time the last deduction was about to end, otherwise..."
Su Qi shook his head, looking at the ten aliens, contemplating how to deal with them.
At this moment, the ten people at the foot of the mountain were also conversing.
"There are quite a few natives around this mountain. Let's enslave them and have them mine for us," Natalie said with a smile.
The others had no objections and nodded.
Not long after descending the mountain, they headed towards the nearest city-state.
Shortly after flying there, they saw what appeared to be a ritual being performed in the city-state's center.
A tall, square, tiered structure stood in the heart of the city-state.
"What is this?"
Looking at the structure and the people performing the ritual, Natalie and the others showed expressions of curiosity.
Unlike the tribe they visited last time with Meng, this time they hovered openly in the air, pointing and gesturing downwards.
At this moment, a group of people sacrificing to the gods exclaimed in unison, staring in shock at the figures hovering a dozen meters above them.
Unusual physiques, strange clothing, wings on their backs, and the ability to fly in the sky out of thin air!
The priest conducting the sacrifice shouted in shock, "Are you messengers from the heavens?"
He wondered if these might be envoys sent by the gods.
The other humans had similar thoughts.
It wasn't surprising they thought this; appearing during a sacrifice and being able to fly in the sky was clearly extraordinary.
"Angels?" Tim said in surprise.
Angels?
The people were startled.
They didn't realize it was a question and thought the other party had confirmed it.
"Angels, do you have something you need?"
The priest continued with that assumption.
"Purpose?"
Seeing the nervous, fearful, yet joyful and excited expressions of the people below, they found it amusing.
"Purpose? Heh heh..." Natalie sneered a few times and said, "Of course, it's to take you as slaves and put you to work!"
The expressions of both the priest and the populace froze, disbelief flickering in their eyes.
What followed was a wave of screams. To establish dominance, Natalie once again took out her Energy Weapon and fired at them without a word.
Soon, the area around the altar was littered with bodies. Even those on the periphery who weren't hit now looked up at the sky with terror.
"You evil angels will surely be punished by the gods!"
The priest said with grief and indignation.
"Gods?"
Upon hearing this, Natalie's face showed even more disdain. Then, a flash of inspiration struck her, and she laughed heartily, "Gods? Your gods are afraid of us too!"
"Kneel, slaves!"
Her silvery laughter echoed.
Jonas, standing beside her, glanced at her with a slight frown but ultimately said nothing.
The people below, who had been filled with fear, now showed expressions of disbelief and stared at them in shock.
What blasphemous words!
"How dare you utter such sacrilegious words, you..." The priest was enraged and wanted to reprimand them.
An electric beam shot over, and the priest screamed, no longer able to speak.
Natalie sneered.
