Background / History
Thor first arrives on Earth with Loki and Asgardian soldiers, presenting himself as an imposing armored warrior with flowing golden hair. He immediately seeks combat, challenging Wang Wei at a training ground. Despite using Mjolnir to charge himself with lightning and receiving hidden assistance from Odin’s power, he is defeated repeatedly by Wang Wei, including after Wang Wei assumes a Hulk form and uses Bajiquan. 124 125 126 127
As crown prince, Thor expects to inherit Asgard and openly favors restoring its prestige through force. His coronation is interrupted by Frost Giant magic, and his later dispute with Odin over whether Jotunheim should be destroyed exposes his impulsiveness. Odin strips Thor of his divine power, sends him to Earth, and enchants Mjolnir so that only a worthy wielder can gain Thor’s power. 144 145 152
On Earth, Thor struggles with both his loss of power and the fact that Chinese soldiers and God Spear Bureau personnel can wield Mjolnir while he cannot. Chen Mu temporarily restores his power using Thor’s Spear, allowing Thor to confront Loki’s Destroyer. Thor later stops Loki’s attack on Jotunheim by destroying the Bifrost, sacrificing his temporary power in the process. 167 176 177 185 186
Thor subsequently serves for years in a Chinese border-defense unit. Military discipline, rescue operations, and the principle of serving the people reshape his understanding of what an army should be: a guardian rather than a weapon of conquest. He intends to bring those principles back to Asgard. 237
Appearance
Thor is a broad, powerfully built Asgardian warrior whose appearance changes after his time in the Chinese military. 124 237
- Flowing golden hair during his early appearances. 124
- Resplendent Asgardian armor, restored to a bright luster when Mjolnir recharges him. 126
- Neat short blond hair after Wang Wei has his long hair shaved during military service. 237
- Muscular physique and exposed, clearly defined arms while serving with Chinese border guards. 237
Personality
Thor is proud, competitive, and intensely drawn to strong warriors. He initially measures himself through combat, cannot accept losing to Wang Wei, and demands an unarmored rematch after Wang Wei repairs the Kirin Armor. 126
His early ambition is openly militaristic: he wants to lead Asgard back to glory through force and sees Odin’s restraint as cowardice. His banishment, inability to lift Mjolnir, and experiences among Chinese soldiers gradually force him to confront the connection between power, sacrifice, and responsibility. 144 152 186 237
Thor remains boastful and impulsive even after maturing. He exaggerates his accomplishments at the founding ceremony of the Asgard Republic, initially dismisses Xu Sanduo’s strength during the Gorr crisis, and lets concern for Jane Foster interfere with his battlefield judgment. 708 923 924 938
Abilities & Skills
Asgardian Physiology
Thor possesses the physical traits of the Asa God Race and the Odin royal bloodline.
- Has a powerful divine body, long lifespan, magical talent, and strength enhanced by magic power. 127 194
- Can exert tens of tons of force through magical enhancement. 194
- Retains formidable physical strength even when stripped of his divine power, though he is far weaker without lightning or Mjolnir. 237
Lightning Magic
Thor has innate lightning magic inherited through his Asgardian royal bloodline.
- Channels lightning through Mjolnir in combat. 125 126
- Can regain and use lightning through Thor’s Spear, even before fully recovering his own power. 176 178
- Fights Greek soldiers barehanded with electrical sparks after awakening his own power. 935
- His lightning talent was analyzed as an innate ability distinct from Mjolnir’s granted power. 131
Odin Force and Bifrost Access
Thor possesses innate Odin Force, the royal divine power of Asgard.
- The Odin Force exceeds ordinary Asgardian magic and can directly activate Bifrost magic. 131
- Mjolnir contains Bifrost magic; with the Odin Force, Thor can use it to summon the Bifrost without the Bifrost device. 179 182
- While empowered by Asgard’s Might, Party Thor can open Bifrost portals from Earth without Heimdall’s assistance. 615
Mjolnir Worthiness
Mjolnir grants Thor’s lightning power to a recognized wielder, but its approval is conditional.
- Odin’s enchantment states that whoever lifts Mjolnir may possess Thor’s power. 152
- Thor loses access to Mjolnir after banishment because he lacks the selfless spirit of sacrifice required by the hammer. 167 186
- His service and rescue work in China gradually restore Mjolnir’s response to him. 237
- Other worthy individuals, including Wang Wei, Xu Jia, Chinese soldiers, and Jane Foster, have wielded or summoned Mjolnir. 169 912 921
Asgard’s Might
Asgard’s Might is a national power tied to Asgard and its people.
- Party Thor awakens it through reforming Asgard rather than through hereditary succession alone. 602 605
- As long as Asgard exists, it provides an effectively inexhaustible source of power. 605
- It allows Thor to wield two Mjolnirs, suppress and dismember Ultron, and reach strength comparable to Odin. 605
- Under the Asgard Republic, the power is tied to the people’s faith in the nation rather than solely to the Odin family. 708 711 916
Combat Skill
Thor is an experienced warrior with over a thousand years of life, though his skill does not always compensate for his recklessness.
- Uses high-speed flight, hammer strikes, lightning, and exceptional physical strength in battle. 125
- Quickly learns the functions of Thor’s Spear due to his natural lightning affinity. 178
- Is repeatedly outclassed by Wang Wei’s Hulk form and martial arts. 127
- Fights Gorr and later confronts Zeus’s forces despite losing access to his primary weapons. 920 935
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Mjolnir — Enchanted hammer that channels lightning, grants Thor’s power to worthy wielders, and contains Bifrost magic. 126 152 179
- Thor’s Spear — Chinese-made weapon powered by an Arc Reactor and magic conversion; temporarily restores Thor-like lightning power to its wielder. Thor borrows it to fight the Destroyer. 176 178
- Stormbreaker — Thor retrieves it from the Greek pantheon, but Gorr later takes it during their fight. 935 938
- Asgardian armor — Golden armor worn during his arrival on Earth and attempted coronation. 124 145
Relationships
- Odin — Father and former king of Asgard. Their conflict over war, responsibility, and Thor’s readiness for rule leads to Thor’s banishment; Odin later recognizes Thor’s reform-driven strength. 152 617
- Loki — Brother and longtime confidant turned adversary. Thor tries to stop Loki from attacking Jotunheim, but later understands that Loki’s actions stem from jealousy and resentment. 132 179 185
- Wang Wei — Warrior rival, military instructor, and eventual comrade. Wang Wei repeatedly defeats Thor, helps humble him, and later assigns him to handle Loki’s return to Earth. 127 163 237
- Chen Mu — Ally and source of crucial assistance. Chen Mu provides Thor’s Spear, advises him on using Mjolnir and the Odin Force for Bifrost travel, and witnesses Thor’s political reforms. 176 182 708
- Jane Foster — Thor’s former girlfriend and later successor as Mjolnir’s wielder. Thor calls her his true love, reacts with jealousy when she becomes Female Thor, and prioritizes saving her during the battle with Gorr. 536 921 938
- Valkyrie — Ally and practical counterbalance to Thor. She supports him against Gorr but repeatedly criticizes his pride and poor strategic judgment. 920 923 924
- Gorr — Initially Thor’s enemy during the God Butcher crisis. After Gorr and his daughter are resurrected, Thor invites him to join Asgard and the Avengers’ cause. 920 950 952
- Zeus — Thor’s former idol and fellow thunder god. Thor becomes disillusioned after Zeus turns an emergency gathering into a party and refuses meaningful aid against Gorr. 924 933 935
Story Role / Major Arcs
God Spear Bureau Sparring
Thor arrives as an Asgardian representative and challenges Wang Wei, only to be defeated despite Mjolnir’s enhancement and Odin’s covert support. The defeat establishes Thor’s rivalry with Chinese warriors and exposes his wounded pride. 125 126 127
Banishment and the Destroyer
Thor’s disagreement with Odin over Jotunheim results in his exile and the loss of Mjolnir’s approval. With Chen Mu’s Thor’s Spear, he regains temporary power, fights the Destroyer, confronts Loki, and destroys the Bifrost to stop the assault on Jotunheim. 152 176 177 185
Chinese Military Service
Thor joins a Chinese border-defense unit, where Wang Wei curbs his arrogance. Rescue missions and military doctrine teach him that an army must protect its people, prompting his desire to reform Asgard’s military and society. 237
Asgardian Reform
The buzz-cut Thor advocates socialism, equality, and the end of hereditary rule. In the Party Thor counterpart’s universe, these reforms awaken an unprecedented Power of Asgard, enabling Thor to defeat Ultron and establish a people-centered Asgard Republic. 554 602 605 708
Conflict with Odin and Hela
Thor’s republic strips Odin of both political authority and Asgardian power. Thor rejects Odin’s offer to “hand over” Asgard, insisting that power belongs to its people, then uses Asgard’s Might to compel Hela to abandon her challenge and contribute to Asgard’s development. 614 617 619
Gorr the God Butcher Crisis
After returning to a weakened Asgard, Thor confronts Gorr alongside Valkyrie, Jane, Korg, and Xu Sanduo. He seeks Zeus’s help, retrieves Stormbreaker, loses it to Gorr while rescuing Jane, and is presumed dead after the Dark Realm conflict. He later returns, brings the reformed Gorr to Asgard, and boasts that together they can rebuild it. 920 924 935 938 950 952
