History
Search for Sasuke
Naruto is a Konoha ninja and Jiraiya’s student, training alongside him when Moriyue first arrives in the village 121. He remains committed to retrieving Sasuke, believing that their bond can survive Sasuke’s departure from Konoha. Even after Sasuke shows clear intent to kill him, Naruto insists that Sasuke is still their friend and vows to bring him home by force if necessary 131.
His pursuit leads him to Tenchi Bridge, where he attacks Orochimaru in anger over Sasuke’s defection. Orochimaru provokes him into losing control of the Nine-Tails’ chakra; Naruto’s resulting Tailed Beast transformation devastates the battlefield, overwhelms Yamato’s Wood Style, and wounds Sakura when she tries to reach him 123.
Sage Mode training and the conflict with Pain
After another failed attempt to find Sasuke, Naruto recognizes that he lacks the strength to change anything. He asks Jiraiya for further training, while Jiraiya urges him to consider what he intends to do with power and the wider cycle of war behind Sasuke’s tragedy 158.
Naruto trains in Sage Mode at Mount Myōboku and later enters the Hidden Rain Village to aid Jiraiya and Sakura against Pain 161 172. He uses Sage Mode and numerous clones against the Six Paths of Pain, but Pain’s coordinated abilities exhaust him, destroy his clone-summoning scroll, and leave him pinned to the ground by black receivers 185.
Kotoamatsukami and Dark Naruto
Following Pain’s capture of Naruto, Moriyue and Orochimaru discover that Naruto is under the influence of Kotoamatsukami 196. Moriyue enters Naruto’s inner world with the Black-faced Sheep and finds it as a lifeless, oppressive wasteland shaped by Naruto’s accumulated hatred 197.
The intrusion reveals Dark Naruto, an alternate personality that contains Naruto’s negative emotions and traumatic experiences. Dark Naruto rejects Naruto’s faith in the Will of Fire, takes control of their shared body, and emerges into reality with blood-red eyes and violent intent 207 208.
Dark Naruto attacks Sakura but hesitates before Hinata, recognizing that she has never shown Naruto malice. He dissipates a Nine-Tails chakra spear aimed at her and leaves rather than confront his feelings 208.
Hoshikage captivity
Naruto is later captured by the Hoshikage, who restrain him with chakra-absorbing shackles and exploit his resentment toward Konoha 232 242. Their elder persuades him to become a new Six Paths and assigns Gold and Utsu to accompany and control him 242.
Though threatened by Utsu and warned by Gold that escape would be suicidal, Naruto refuses to view himself as their subordinate. He accepts further Nine-Tails power when Utsu loosens his seal, gaining strength while struggling against the resulting darkness and rage 243.
In a white inner space, Naruto encounters Minato Namikaze, his father and the Fourth Hokage. Minato tries to stop him, apologizes for failing him, and urges him to believe in himself, his comrades, and his village 245.
Seven-Tails battle and later conflict
Naruto attacks Kaede, the Seven-Tails Jinchūriki, with Sage Art Rasengan before transforming into a nine-tailed beast. Their battle is moved away from the village, where they exchange claw strikes and prepare opposing Tailed Beast Bombs until Moriyue absorbs both attacks with his tentacles 246 247.
During the later Six Paths conflict, Madara dismisses Naruto as no longer useful and throws his badly injured body from the battlefield 296.
Appearance
Naruto has golden hair, azure eyes, and whisker-like facial markings 123 131. His appearance changes sharply with Sage Mode and Nine-Tails chakra.
- Sage Mode gives him golden horizontal pupils and red eye shadow 172 185.
- Dark Naruto’s eyes become clouded, scarlet, and bloodthirsty 208.
- In Nine-Tails form, he grows deep-crimson tails, adopts a fox-like posture, and fights with chakra-infused claws 247.
- During the battle with Pain, he wears a deep-red coat and carries two large scrolls 185.
Personality
Naruto is stubbornly loyal to his bonds, particularly his connection to Sasuke. He continues to call Sasuke a friend even when confronted with Sasuke’s killing intent, convinced that defeating him is preferable to abandoning him 131.
He initially retains faith in the Will of Fire, mutual understanding, and protecting Konoha despite a childhood marked by ostracization. Dark Naruto challenges these beliefs by arguing that ideals are meaningless without identity and strength 196 207.
After Kotoamatsukami’s influence and Pain’s attack on Konoha, Naruto becomes vulnerable to hatred and manipulation. Even while under Hoshikage control, however, he refuses to submit quietly and looks for ways to preserve his autonomy 242 243.
