Lin Yue entered the Sun Clan Martial Arts School as a youth of about fifteen or sixteen. Sun Yong personally assessed him as having a High-grade root bone—the first such aptitude among the school’s disciples—and immediately took charge of his Temper Qi and Blood and fist training. Lin Yue initially appeared shy and uncomfortable amid the attention, but his talent quickly made him the school’s central prospect. 8

Within a month, he attained Minor Mastery in Mountain Collapse Fist and entered Bright Strength. Sun Yong exempted him from fees, provided high-quality meat and precious medicine, and later permitted him to reside in the inner courtyard—privileges not generally offered even to other Bright Strength disciples. 13 25

Lin Yue advanced to Hidden Strength in less than half a year. He became Sun Yong’s primary hope for the Parade Ground Trial, defeating three Hidden Strength opponents in succession during a sparring event and later defeating Ye Canglan to claim first place in the third arena. 26 37 64

During the ranking battles, Lin Yue faced Li Mengchao of the Li Family. Confident that he could overcome his opponent, he committed fully to an attack; Li Mengchao then revealed his concealed strength and struck him in the chest with the Diamond Hand Seal, leaving Lin Yue severely injured and unconscious. 70 71

While recovering, Lin Yue learned that Yang Jing—whom he had long regarded as an inferior disciple—had placed fourth in the Parade Ground Trial. The news left him shocked, resentful, and ashamed.
