The sky was pitch-black, and it was already past eight.

Dong Xuebin had arrived just in time, though he was a little late. In the taxi, he kept checking his watch. "Xuebin!" A woman's voice called from behind him.

Dong Xuebin turned around and immediately smiled. "Tanzi! Zhuangzi!"

The two standing behind him were Sun Zhuang and Tan Limei. They had been Dong Xuebin's colleagues when he had first passed the Civil Servants examination, and they had worked together at the Chengxi State Security Bureau for quite some time. They had gotten along well from the start. Seeing old friends put Dong Xuebin in a good mood, and his smile grew broad.

"Have you been waiting long?"

"No, we just got here too."

"I told you not to make the trip. I could've come find you."

"Hehe, you're a big leader now. How could we make you come over?"

"Come on, are you trying to embarrass me? I heard you two have been doing pretty well too. Congratulations."

"Don't. You're the one embarrassing us. I only just got promoted to director, and I'm still only at deputy section level. I can't compare to you at all. We're hundreds of streets apart. I heard you've become an executive deputy county chief? A deputy department-level official in the Standing Committee? Damn, you've risen way too fast, haven't you? A promotion in less than a year?"

Tan Limei was still as cheerful as ever. She had not changed.
