Background

Li Ang was raised in Barkley under his father’s martial instruction. After his parents died, his teenage years became a struggle for survival on the streets; he worked as a bounty hunter and eventually fled Barkley for Pande while wanted by both enemies and the law 1.

Soon after arriving in Pande, the body he inhabited was ambushed by the Crimson Brotherhood. Li Ang, a soul from another world, took over while it was near death and gained half of the Mount & Blade System. He recovered, trained in Mistveil City’s arena for half a year, and used deliberately manipulated matches to accumulate money, proficiency, equipment, Alice, and a reputation as the “Master of the Arena” 3 5.

His parents’ past remains politically dangerous. Li Ang later learns that his mother was Helen Pendragon, linked to the former Pendor royal line, but he deliberately continues using the Griffin name rather than publicly claiming that heritage 102 159 160.

Appearance

Li Ang is a black-haired, black-eyed man of Barkley origin. Arena training changed his previously thin body into a powerful, masculine physique, though the much larger Meitengheim mercenaries initially considered him undersized 3 7 14.

  • Stands approximately 1.8 meters tall 7.
  • Has a strong build developed through prolonged arena training 3 7.
  • Is often identified by his black hair and black eyes 14.
  • By the time he is expected to be in his forties, he still appears around twenty-one years old 441.

Personality

Li Ang is practical, calculating, and unusually candid about his motives. He initially seeks power primarily to secure his own safety and protect those close to him, eventually admitting that he wants enough military strength to unify the continent because only overwhelming power feels secure 113.

He prefers ambushes, deception, negotiation, and retreat over honorable but costly frontal battles. He openly dislikes charging into combat, yet repeatedly takes the front when a situation demands it 38 43 78. His methods can be coercive—he extorts enemies, leverages prisoners, and exploits political weakness—but he also compensates fallen soldiers’ families, ensures proper burials, and invests heavily in the welfare and advancement of his followers 27 28 103.

Li Ang places great value on keeping agreements, even when doing so benefits an enemy. This reliability becomes a central part of his leadership and recruitment style 45 113.

Abilities & Skills

Mount & Blade System

Li Ang possessed half of a game-like system that accelerated physical training and allowed him to inspect certain combat proficiencies and party information.

  • Rapidly improved weapon proficiency through repetitive arena practice and live combat 3.
  • Could allocate personally earned skill points, but could not view or increase basic attributes such as Strength or Intelligence 3 38.
  • Could identify recruited troop types through a party list and recognize people who became “Territory Inhabitants” 20 56.
  • Could view teammates’ skills but could not control their development 38.
  • Eventually lost the system, retaining only the experience and muscle memory gained through it 371.

Swordsmanship and Close Combat

Li Ang is one of the strongest human duelists on the continent, combining high proficiency with unconventional, highly practical technique.

  • Defeated Meitengheim Great Swordsman Kloze in a greatsword duel, earning the mercenaries’ allegiance 7 8.
  • Uses close-range positioning, footwork, disarms, kicks, grappling, and joint locks rather than relying on formal sword exchanges 131 231.
  • Fights effectively with either hand and can switch hands during mounted combat to disrupt an opponent’s defense 154.
  • Defeated Meitengheim Deathmatch Swordsman Frederi and gladiator leader Sigismund through adaptable tactics 131 231.
  • His human strength and technique remain insufficient against many magically enhanced or non-human foes without support 230.

Archery

Although melee weapons are his highest proficiencies, Li Ang considers the bow his preferred weapon and values it as a safer command tool.

  • Uses battlefield intuition, rhythm, breathing control, and live-combat experience to make difficult shots 38.
  • His archery helps repel Gatu cavalry at the Tongtian River bridgehead 38.
  • Prefers ranged combat and calculated positioning to reckless personal charges 38.

Command and Battlefield Tactics

Li Ang is a flexible field commander who builds battles around terrain, morale, deception, and the capabilities of his troops.

  • Favors prepared ground, obstacles, ambushes, and surprise attacks over direct contests of strength 41 78.
  • Used a bandit-knight disguise to convince an enemy force to withdraw 78.
  • Exploited enemy hunger and exhaustion to break Lord Rainier’s morale before engaging 81.
  • Personally led reconnaissance and infiltrated hostile camps to obtain intelligence 115 116.
  • Organized large-scale recruit training in cavalry, infantry, and archery disciplines 103.

Politics, Commerce, and Administration

Li Ang treats wealth, food, population, technology, and military power as interconnected parts of statecraft.

  • Established Wheat Fragrance Territory from the ruins of Ailedge Village and planned its residential, commercial, and agricultural zones 55 56.
  • Founded Long River Express to dominate eastern grain trade and rapidly expand his territory’s comprehensive strength 130.
  • Negotiates through leverage, information asymmetry, and mutually beneficial arrangements, including deals with enemies and rival nobles 128 153 204.
  • Proposed a Five-Year Plan intended to eliminate poverty across the New Kingdom of Pendor 431.

Gunpowder and Grenades

Li Ang adopts gunpowder weapons as a strategic advantage rather than treating them as mere curiosities.

  • Maintains a laboratory with black powder and unfinished grenades at White Deer Fortress 205.
  • Uses Palm Thunders to train Alice against explosions and to counter Aldarian’s challenge 213.
  • Employs grenade-tipped arrows to disrupt cavalry at the Battle of Buyulin 404.

Void-Derived Perception

After escaping the abyss and void, Li Ang temporarily gains a prophetic sensory ability.

  • Can sense nearby movement across several miles, resembling a “god’s-eye view” rather than literal sight 348.
  • The heightened awareness is mentally overwhelming and eventually disappears along with his system 348 371.

  • Griffin Knight Sword — A concealed family-linked sword whose true form identifies Li Ang with the Griffin legacy 58.
  • Greatswords, knightly swords, lances, spears, bows, and shields — Li Ang adapts his armament to terrain and circumstances rather than relying on one weapon 7 38 154.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arena Escape and the Meitengheim Retinue

Li Ang survives the Crimson Brotherhood’s pursuit in Mistveil City by hiding in the arena, exploiting the half-system to train, and fixing arena outcomes for profit. After leaving, he acquires Alice and purchases the enslaved Meitengheim fighters, defeating Kloze to turn them into a loyal core force 3 5 7 8.

Pioneer Lord and Wheat Fragrance Territory

Li Ang registers as a Pioneer Lord, aligns cautiously with Count Oden Fletcher, and begins suppressing threats around Long River Town. After securing the ruined Ailedge Village, he renames it Wheat Fragrance Territory, recruits settlers, grants land, and creates a structured development plan 11 18 55 56.

Frontier Wars and Territorial Expansion

He defends the Tongtian River against the Gatu, builds a broader military organization, and uses deception, raids, prisoner negotiations, and strategic retreats to protect his growing domain. He also receives appointments as Prefect of Aier River County while maneuvering rival Lionheart factions against one another 38 78 103 128.

Commercial and Political Consolidation

Recognizing that his small territory cannot survive a major defeat, Li Ang establishes Long River Express and pursues control of regional grain trade. He expands through commerce, banking, tax privileges, and calculated deals with nobles, kings, and criminal networks 130 153 218.

Noldo Alliance and Conflicts Beyond Human Limits

Li Ang recruits or allies with Noldo figures such as Risadiran, intervenes in conflicts involving the Misty Mountain people, and gains the Noldo’s growing respect. At the same time, he confronts enhanced gladiators, the Three Prophets, the Snake Worship Cult, and other enemies whose strength exceeds normal human limits 174 213 230.

Abyss, Void, and Prophecy

During the struggle against Aigrem, Li Ang is drawn into a supernatural journey involving Kualis, Althea, the Blood Prison Abyss, and the void. He escapes with temporary prophetic perception, learns more about his bloodline and the continent’s hidden powers, and later loses both this perception and his system 340 345 348 371.

Founding of New Pendor

To avert escalating racial conflict and consolidate his authority, Li Ang accepts a political marriage with Amy and Wendy. He founds the New Kingdom of Pendor in Long River City, pledging to end continental war and build a prosperous state; the realm is later elevated into an empire, with Li Ang titled Emperor of the Pande 388 389 437.

Imperial Rule

As ruler, Li Ang continues to wage wars while coordinating with former enemies against the Snake Worship Cult. He later launches a kingdom-wide poverty-alleviation and wealth-creation campaign, and his long-term rule is credited with the prosperity and stability of former frontier cities such as Mistveil 399 431 440.
